Frontier Airlines is the latest carrier to jump on the Starlink bandwagon.

The ultra-low-cost airline announced today, July 14, that it plans to begin rolling out SpaceX’s high-speed satellite internet in early 2027, giving you gate-to-gate connectivity whether you’re planning to stream a movie, scroll social media, or knock out some work.

Here’s what you need to know about Frontier’s upcoming Starlink rollout across its fleet.

Frontier says its first Starlink-equipped aircraft is expected to enter service in early 2027. Once available, passengers can expect gate-to-gate internet fast enough for streaming, browsing, gaming, and getting some work done in the air.

One thing Frontier didn’t announce, however, is whether the service will be free. Unlike United and several other airlines that have committed to complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi, Frontier only said passengers will connect through a new Starlink-managed internet portal. That implies the airline is still finalizing the details, so we’ll have to wait and see whether Wi-Fi ends up being free or a paid add-on.

Beyond passenger Wi-Fi, Frontier says Starlink will also keep pilots, flight attendants, maintenance crews, and ground teams connected, which it expects will improve operations.

The announcement follows other recent investments from Frontier, including the introduction of first-class seating and expand Frontier Miles benefits. It’s another sign the ultra-low-cost carrier is working to improve the onboard experience while keeping fares low.

Frontier also won’t be the only airline making the move. Through Indigo Partners, sister carriers Wizz Air, Volaris, JetSMART, and Cebu Pacific also plan to install Starlink across their fleets. Together, the 5 airlines expect to equip more than 1,000 aircraft, making this one of the largest Starlink rollouts announced to date.

Hot Tip:

Frontier joins a growing list of U.S. airlines that have already committed to Starlink. Hawaiian Airlines was the first major U.S. carrier to launch the service, while American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Alaska Airlines are all in the process of rolling it out across their fleets. Even semiprivate carrier JSX has offered complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi for several years now.

Final Thoughts

Fast, reliable inflight Wi-Fi is quickly becoming the norm, rather than a nice-to-have, and Frontier is the latest airline to get on board. The first Starlink-equipped aircraft isn’t expected until early 2027, so the biggest remaining question is whether passengers will get the service for free or have to pay for it once it launches.

We’ll keep you posted and update this article once we learn more.
