Ultra-low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines has announced the launch of 18 new routes.

These new routes, set to commence in February and March of 2022, are aimed primarily at sun-seekers and will connect cities mostly in the northern U.S. to destinations in Florida, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.

The majority of the new flights will be to and from Fort Lauderdale (FLL), which also marks the first time the airline will operate passenger flights at the airport.

Fort Lauderdale isn’t the only new destination for the carrier, though: Aguadilla (BQN) in Puerto Rico will also receive Frontier flights for the first time.

“These new flights complement our already expansive network in the Caribbean, Mexico, and South Florida, and we look forward to welcoming travelers onboard to these popular vacation destinations this winter, and beyond,” said Daniel Shurz, Senior Vice President of Commercial at Frontier Airlines.

To celebrate the launch of the new routes, Frontier is offering introductory fares as low as $19 one-way until 11:59 p.m. on December 6, 2021.

Fort Lauderdale Welcomes Frontier for the First Time

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) has long been considered South Florida’s second gateway, behind the region’s largest airport, Miami International Airport (MIA). Just about 30 miles north of Miami, FLL gives flyers another (usually cheaper) option for getting to their vacation in the Florida sun.

From February 17, 2022, Frontier will operate daily round-trip flights from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta (ATL), Buffalo (BUF), Islip (ISP), Orlando (MCO), Philadelphia (PHL), Providence (PVD), and Trenton (TTN), with 3 weekly flights to Stewart (SWF) in New York.

Then, thrice-weekly service to Albany (ALB) and twice-weekly service to Rochester (ROC) will commence on February 18, 2022, followed finally by once-weekly service to Green Bay (GRB) and Portland (PWM) in Maine beginning on February 19, 2022.

Fort Lauderdale has been — and continues to be — a large base for other low-cost airlines like JetBlue and Spirit, so it makes sense that Frontier would want to get a slice of the pie at the airport. The carrier already serves Miami (MIA) with flights to a number of cities across the U.S. and Caribbean.

New Routes to Puerto Rico

Also set to receive new service from Frontier is Puerto Rico.

Rafael Hernández International Airport (BQN) in the city of Aguadilla will be added to Frontier’s route network for the very first time on March 24, 2022, when the airline inaugurates nonstop service 3 times per week from Orlando (MCO).

Elsewhere, the island’s main gateway in San Juan (SJU) will see the addition of 4 weekly flights from Boston (BOS) from February 17, 2022, and 3 weekly flights from Hartford (BDL) from February 18, 2022.

New Routes to Mexico

Those living in and around Buffalo (BUF), Hartford (BDL), and Providence (PVD) will soon have the option to fly nonstop on Frontier to Cancún (CUN), an ever-popular destination for those seeking sun, especially in the winter.

Hartford flights are set to begin on February 17, 2022, and will operate 3 times per week, while Buffalo flights will start a day later on February 18, 2022, and will also operate 3 times per week. Nonstop service between Providence and Cancún will operate once per week from February 19, 2022.

Final Thoughts

Frontier’s latest round of route additions will be music to the ears of many living up and down the East Coast (and in Green Bay), as the carrier’s famous ultra-low fares will provide the opportunity to take a well-deserved break in the sun for a lot less cash.

Before booking, make sure that you’re a member of the Frontier Miles loyalty program so that you can earn and redeem Frontier miles for your flights!
