Unfortunately, we’ve grown all too accustomed to constant hotel program devaluations, with Hilton Honors possibly being the worst. It now charges up to 250,000 Hilton Honors points for a standard award night at some of its top properties.

However, the chain has made a small tweak to its online search feature that will help members identify those all-important standard award nights, making it easier and more effective to redeem points or free night certificates for stays at the best-possible prices.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Hilton Updates Online Search Feature, Making Redemptions Easier

The team at Thrifty Traveler has pointed out that Hilton Honors tweaked how it displays search results, moving to a color-coded system that highlights the lowest-priced nights, whether you’re paying in cash or redeeming Hilton Honors points.

How does it work in practice?

The best way to get an overview of pricing at a given hotel is to search for your destination and select “Shop by Price,” which will return a month-by-month view of availability and pricing at your chosen hotel.

For example, here’s a look at availability in May for the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club in Orange County, California.

You can see nights highlighted in green. These are nights on which Standard Room Reward rates are available, which is the lowest rate you’ll pay at that property for an award night. This also means these nights are eligible for the free night certificates that come with select Hilton co-branded credit cards.

This change doesn’t mean prices have gone down. The top properties in Hilton’s portfolio still cost 250,000 points per night, but this change helps users more readily see nights on which they can score the best possible award rates and/or use free night certificates, which should make using this perk a bit easier.

The new functionality also works for cash rates, as you can see below:

The green-highlighted night shows the best available cash rate for May 2026, which is $783 for that night.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t a major change, but it is a helpful one that should make redeeming points and free night certificates with Hilton quite a bit easier. Now, when you use the “Shop by Price” feature on Hilton’s website, you can quickly see which nights offer the lowest rates, whether you’re booking with cash or points.
