Hilton Hotels has inked a deal for the Palacio Provincial Hotel in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Here’s what you need to know.

First Hilton Hotel in Old San Juan

Hilton says the 43-room boutique Palacio Provincial Hotel will become part of the Curio Collection brand.

Guest rooms feature Juliet balconies, smart TVs, and work desks. The hotel, which dates back to 1838, underwent a renovation in 2021. It has 2 restaurants and space for meetings and events.

The hotel is expected to join the Hilton Honors portfolio this year, but Hilton didn’t specify when. It’s also unclear how many points will be required for a stay.

This will be Hilton’s first hotel in Old San Juan, a historic neighborhood famous for its colorful architecture and buildings dating back to the 16th century.

“We are thrilled to announce the signing and upcoming conversion of Palacio Provincial, Curio Collection by Hilton and expanding Hilton’s Puerto Rico portfolio to such a sought-after destination with a remarkable hotel that preserves the cultural legacy of Old San Juan and meets our guests in the destinations they want to travel,” said Pablo Maturana, vice president, development, Caribbean and Latin America, Hilton.

Booking Hilton Hotels in Puerto Rico

While we await Palacio Provincial Hotel joining Hilton Honors, let’s take a look at some other options you can book on the island.

Hilton has 9 hotels across 6 brands in Puerto Rico, including Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Tapesty Collection, and more.

You’ll typically find moderate cash rates on hotels in Puerto Rico. For instance, a 1-night stay at the Condado Palm Inn San Juan, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, starts at just $252 per night this May.

Award rates are also pretty decent, with awards starting at 60,000 Hilton Honors points per night (for a standard room) for the same dates.

That may seem steep, but earning Hilton Honors points is pretty straightforward. This is true if you aren’t loyal to the program. You can earn them through a Hilton co-branded credit card, transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards, ride in a Lyft, or dine out with Hilton Honors Dining.

Final Thoughts

One of Puerto Rico’s best hotels will soon be bookable with points, as the Palacio Provincial Hotel joins Hilton Honors. This is excellent news for travelers who will have another option for high-end points stays on the island. While we wait for the hotel to join the Curio Collection, check out Hilton’s other properties across Puerto Rico!
