The Holiday Inn brand is returning to Kyoto, Japan, next year with the opening of the Holiday Inn Kyoto Gojo.

Here’s what you need to know.

New Holiday Inn Coming to Kyoto

The 183-room Holiday Inn Kyoto Gojo will open by early 2025 after a “comprehensive refurbishment.” Amenities will include a lobby lounge, cafe bar, restaurant, gym, and a traditional Japanese bathhouse.

The hotel will be a 2-minute walk from Gojo Station on the Karasuma Line and a 90-minute drive from Kansai International Airport (KIX). While it will participate in the IHG One Rewards loyalty program, it’s unclear how many points will be required to stay here.

“The historical, cultural, and beautiful Kyoto is one of the world’s favorite destinations, so we are confident that Holiday Inn, as the world’s largest hotel brand family, along with IHG’s other Kyoto hotels, ANA Crowne Plaza Kyoto and Six Senses Kyoto, will provide a place for everyone to stay when visiting this unique and wonderful city,” said Abhijay Sandilya, IHG’s Managing Director of Japan & Micronesia.

Bottom Line:

Holiday Inn has a 50-year history in Kyoto. Japan’s first Holiday Inn, which opened in 1973, was located in Kyoto. The Kyoto Gojo property will become IHG’s 11th Holiday Inn hotel in Japan and the third IHG property in the city.

Booking IHG Hotels in Japan

IHG has an impressive presence in Japan with close to 60 hotels open or in the development pipeline. Some of these properties are among the best in the country. For example, the 5-star InterContinental Osaka boasts a Michelin-starred restaurant, a spa, a pool, a bathhouse, and large guest rooms. Rates here start at around $330 per night or 69,000 IHG One Rewards points for early fall 2024 dates.

While that may seem steep, there are many ways to earn IHG One Rewards points. The first is by having an IHG co-branded credit card. You’ll earn points by meeting a minimum spending requirement, by spending at IHG properties, and on everyday spending.

Alternatively, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio to the IHG One Rewards program.

Final Thoughts

A new Holiday Inn will open in Kyoto by early 2025 and it’s likely it will be more luxurious than the typical Holiday Inn hotel. When it opens, the Holiday Inn Kyoto Gojo will join a solid lineup of IHG hotels in Kyoto, giving you more ways to earn and redeem points!
