JW Marriott Mauritius Reflagging as St. Regis Le Morne Resort, Mauritius — Again

The ultra-luxe St. Regis Le Morne Resort, Mauritius, will celebrate its “grand opening” on May 6, 2025.

But this isn’t a debut, at least not exactly. Marriott appears to be reflagging the JW Marriott Mauritius into a St. Regis, but the resort was previously a St. Regis, at least until 2021. I actually stayed here in 2021, when it was a JW Marriott. Many of the rooms’ decor and amenities were branded with JW logos.

Marriott says the resort has undergone a “comprehensive transformation” and upgraded the Le Manoir and La Patisserie restaurants. But the star of the show isn’t open just yet. The resort will debut The St. Regis Grand Beachfront Villa later this year. The 17,000 square-foot villa — one of the largest in the Indian Ocean — can host up to 16 guests. It boasts direct beach access, 4 guest rooms with private decks, multiple living spaces, 3 plunge pools, and an infinity pool.

“The debut of The St. Regis Le Morne Resort underscores our commitment to expanding the St. Regis portfolio and elevating the world’s most coveted destinations,” said Helen Leighton, Vice President of Luxury Brands for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. “Guests will experience the timeless glamour of St. Regis through personalized service and signature rituals, setting the stage for an unforgettable stay.”

For now, Marriott is still branding this property as a JW Marriott. Rates start at $477 per night or just 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night, depending on dates.

Hot Tip:

Thanks to its low award rates, especially during the summer, this resort is an excellent choice for using a Marriott Bonvoy free night certificate!

New York’s Hotel Kinsley Joins Marriott’s Design Hotels Collection

Hotel Kinsley, a member of Design Hotels, in Kingston, New York, has joined Marriott’s exclusive Design Hotels brand. Located in the Stockade District, the hotel consists of 4 separate buildings and features 42 guest rooms.

Amenities include a New American restaurant, a spa, and an event venue with a 450-person capacity. While the hotel is officially a member of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, awards don’t seem to be available yet. Cash rates start at $260 per night.

Wyndham Plans To Grow Super 8 Brand in Spain and Portugal

Wyndham has big plans for one of its largest budget brands. This week, the hotel chain announced that it will develop and open 40 Super 8 hotels in Spain and Portugal over the next decade. The first one will open in Leiria, Portugal, in the fourth quarter of 2027. Wyndham plans to concentrate the brand in key travel hubs, such as airports, busy retail areas, and popular transportation routes in smaller cities.

Final Thoughts

It was another exciting week in the hotel industry. Several high-end hotels have opened or will open soon in Maui, Greece, and more. Additionally, the formerly JW Marriott Mauritius is being reflagged as a St. Regis.

As always, we’ll see you back here next week with more exciting news from around the hotel world!
