Hotel brands stayed busy this week with new openings, international expansion plans, and a welcome reversal for World of Hyatt Globalists.

Park Hyatt is heading to Portugal, IHG is adding 14 properties in Kyoto, and Hilton Honors members have a new opportunity to redeem points for an overwater villa in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Park Hyatt Sydney restored guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout for eligible guests, and 2 major Marriott properties in Orlando are getting a new owner.

Let’s take a closer look at the biggest hotel stories from the past week.

Hotel Openings

Toll House Hotel Los Gatos, Tapestry Collection by Hilton — California

The 115-room Toll House Hotel Los Gatos has joined Hilton’s Tapestry Collection, giving Hilton Honors members another boutique option near Silicon Valley.

The downtown Los Gatos hotel offers a restaurant, fitness center, pet-friendly rooms, EV charging, and more than 6,000 square feet of meeting space. Light renovations are also underway in the lobby, guest rooms, and other shared areas.

Rates start at $160 or 47,000 Hilton Honors points per night.

Telunas Private Island Joins Hilton Through SLH — Indonesia

Telunas Private Island is a secluded resort in Indonesia’s Riau Islands, about 31 miles and 2 ferry rides from Singapore. It features 15 family-friendly overwater villas and 5 adults-only Ridge Villas with private plunge pools.

The resort is now bookable through Hilton Honors’ partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Standard 960-square-foot overwater villas cost 100,000 points per night, with a 2-night minimum, or roughly $425 to $525 in cash.

Holiday Inn & Suites Commerce City-Denver Airport — Colorado

Holiday Inn & Suites Commerce City-Denver Airport has opened less than 10 minutes from Denver International Airport (DEN).

The 106-room hotel is the first new-build Holiday Inn to feature the brand’s redesigned lobby, which combines the front desk, ordering counter, and bar into a single central area. Guests also receive complimentary airport transportation, Wi-Fi, and coffee.

Upcoming Hotels

Park Hyatt Comporta (Portugal) — 2029

Hyatt announced its plan to bring the Park Hyatt brand to Portugal with Park Hyatt Comporta, expected to open in 2029. Located along Portugal’s Atlantic coast within an hour of Lisbon’s airport, the hotel should feature 58 rooms and suites, 6 private villas, and 22 branded residences.

Amenities are expected to include swimming pools, restaurants, a wellness space, a fitness center, a padel court, and a kids club. The hotel will also sit beside the Troia Golf Course.

IHG Adds 14 Hotels in Kyoto (Japan)

IHG has signed a major portfolio deal covering 14 hotels and 1,063 rooms in Kyoto. The agreement includes 12 Garner hotels, 1 Holiday Inn Express, and 1 currently unbranded property. All of them will be converted and renovated, with phased openings over the next 12 months.

The deal significantly expands Garner’s footprint in Japan and adds the country’s third Holiday Inn Express.

Hotel Industry News

Park Hyatt Sydney Restores Globalist Late Checkout

Park Hyatt Sydney has removed its resort designation, restoring the guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout benefit for World of Hyatt Globalists and travelers using Guest of Honor awards.

The hotel had classified itself as a resort in May 2026, which exempted it from guaranteeing the benefit. Hyatt has now confirmed that the property is no longer considered a resort.

Alila Ventana Big Sur Delays Reopening

Alila Ventana Big Sur is now expected to remain closed through September 3, 2026, because of nearby wildfire activity and another Highway 1 closure. Travelers with upcoming reservations should contact the hotel directly for the latest reopening and cancellation information.

Orlando’s Grande Lakes Resort Changes Owners

The $1.38 billion sale of Grande Lakes Orlando includes the 1,010-room JW Marriott and 582-room Ritz-Carlton. Both will retain their Marriott branding after the deal closes in the third quarter of 2026.

Final Thoughts

Hyatt and IHG announced major expansions in Portugal and Japan, but Telunas Private Island may be the most alluring element for award travelers. Its overwater villas are now bookable with Hilton points.

Stay tuned for more hotel news next week.
