Hotel News

The Waldorf Astoria New York is Up for Sale

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that the Waldorf Astoria New York was being put on the market, following a multi-billion-dollar renovation. The 375-room hotel reopened last summer after an 8-year closure for a sweeping renovation.

But the Journal reported that the project was 5 years behind schedule and more than $1 billion over budget, and its owners are looking to offload it.

Hot Tip:

You’ll find some award availability this summer for only 150,000 Hilton Honors points per night. Make sure to book before it disappears!

W Amsterdam Hit With Eviction Notice

The W Amsterdam was reportedly served with an eviction notice to vacate within 15 days due to more than $20 million in unpaid rent

For its part, Marriott is still selling rooms. If you have a refundable reservation booked with cash or points, we recommend canceling and booking elsewhere. If you made a non-refundable reservation, we suggest calling your bank to state your case.

Final Thoughts

The month of February ended with some big hotel news, from high-end resorts in Vietnam and India opening their doors to a luxury hotel in the Netherlands being evicted.

We’ll be back here next week with more news from across the hotel industry.
