It was a busy week in the hotel industry. A new safari camp has opened in the Serengeti, while several luxury hotels are planned for Utah and New York’s Hudson Valley later this decade.

Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection, Tanzania

Mapito Tented Camp, Serengeti, offers 15 luxury tents (with private decks and retractable roofs) where you can see the Big 5 and the Great Wildebeest Migration.

Amenities include 4 restaurants and bars, day and nighttime safaris, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, and a spa. Rates start at $1,872 or 179,000 Marriott Bonvoy points nightly.

Hotel Heron Alexandria Old Town, Curio Collection by Hilton, Virginia

Alexandria, Virginia’s Hotel Heron has joined the Curio Collection by Hilton portfolio. The hotel features 134 guest rooms, along with a restaurant, a cocktail bar, a rooftop lounge, and a coffee bar.

Nightly rates start at $185 or 64,000 Hilton Honors points.

The Green Leaf Niseko Village, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, Japan

The Green Leaf Niseko Village, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, has officially opened to guests, marking the brand’s debut in Japan. The hotel has 200 guest rooms and is located at the foot of Mount Niseko Annupuri on Japan’s northernmost island.

Amenities include a restaurant, a lobby lounge, a natural rock pool onsen, a spa, and a fitness center. Rates start at $125 or 41,000 Hilton Honors points.

The Heid Lofts by Reside, a Wyndham Residence, Pennsylvania

The Heid Lofts by Reside, a Wyndham Residence, offers 96 apartment-style rooms and appears to have joined Wyndham after Sonder’s bankruptcy.

The extended-stay hotel offers high-speed internet, full kitchens, in-suite laundry, and amenities such as a fitness center and a rooftop terrace. Cash rates start at $108 nightly, while awards cost 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points per night.

Upcoming Hotels

1 Hotel & Homes Hudson Valley, New York (2028)

1 Hotel & Homes Hudson Valley will have approximately 100 guest rooms and suites. The resort will have several dining options, a pool and a bar, a fitness center, and a spa.

Located near Fifth Lake in New York’s Ulster County, the resort will be a 90-minute drive from Midtown Manhattan.

Six Senses Camp Korongo, Utah (2029)

The ultra-luxe Six Senses brand is planning a new resort near Kanab, Utah. The 480-acre Six Senses Camp Korongo will have 41 tented pavilions and 12 residences. Amenities will include guided hikes, access to national parks, a spa, and more.

Hotel 1000 Seattle Leaves Hilton, Joins World of Hyatt 

Hotel 1000 Seattle left the Hilton Honors program this week, as reported by One Mile at a Time. It will join World of Hyatt and is listed as a listed as a pipeline hotel, but it’s unclear when it will be bookable with points.

Aman’s Amangati Setting Sail Next Year

Aman has released the inaugural voyages for its luxury yacht, Amangati. Scheduled to launch in May 2027, it will have 47 suites, 4 dining venues, a spa, and an open-air garden. Trips include Mediterranean Spain, the French Riviera, the Greek Isles, and more. Trips start at roughly $40,000 per suite.

IHG Plans Big 2026 Expansion in Greater China

IHG has big plans for China in the first half of 2026, as travel to the region continues to grow. All told, more than a dozen hotels are scheduled to open across China and Taiwan in the first half of the year, including cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Taipei. A diverse mix of brands, such as InterContinental, Kimpton, and voco, should appeal to a wide range of travelers.

Final Thoughts

This was an exciting week, as several new points hotels opened in sought-after destinations like the Serengeti in Tanzania and Japan. Plus, IHG will open several new hotels in China this year (including luxury options), while Aman’s luxe Amangati yacht is now open for bookings.
