Six Senses is one of the world’s most luxurious hotel brands. It was founded in 1995 by Sonu Shivdasani, who is most well-known for the ultra-luxe Soneva properties.

Today, the brand has 21 properties in 17 countries. Its hotels occupy incredible locations and present an emphasis on sustainable luxury.

In this guide, we’ll first take a deep dive into the brand itself. Then, we’ll show you how to maximize your stays using credit cards and points. Finally, we’ll show you the top Six Senses properties.

What Is Six Senses?

Six Senses has been named the world’s number 1 hotel brand, according to publications like Travel + Leisure.

Its 6 core values are:

  • Local sensitivity, global sensibility
  • Responsible and caring
  • Crafted experiences
  • Pioneering wellness
  • Emotional hospitality
  • Fun and quirky

These properties, in particular, are each created with a vision of balancing economic profitability with environmental and social responsibility.

Each of Six Senses’ properties makes innovative use of the natural topography in its location, putting great emphasis on natural spaces and a sense of place.

These properties ultimately strive to rejuvenate guests and reconnect them with the local environment.

To make the most of your Six Senses stay, let’s examine how to use credit cards and points for bookings.

How To Maximize Six Senses Stays With Credit Cards

Six Senses was acquired by IHG Hotels & Resorts in early 2019, which boosted the value proposition of the IHG One Rewards loyalty program.

As IHG slowly integrates Six Senses properties into its loyalty program, you can start thinking about redeeming IHG One Rewards points for Six Senses stays.

But even if you don’t have IHG One Rewards points, we’ll show you how you can either use other points to book free stays or get fantastic benefits on paid stays.

IHG One Rewards Credit Cards

Though Six Senses’ integration with IHG One Rewards is still ongoing, you can currently earn points at any Six Senses property.

What remains to be seen, however, is when you’ll be able to redeem IHG points for stays at any Six Senses property — currently, it’s only possible to book award stays at certain ones.

Nevertheless, IHG has a couple of co-branded credit cards in partnership with Chase, allowing you to earn points from everyday purchases. Check them out!

Redeeming IHG One Rewards Points

IHG One Rewards uses a dynamic pricing system, which means that the price you’ll pay for a stay will fluctuate within a certain range depending on the hotel, the stay dates, and the cash price of the room.

The program’s points are worth 0.5 cents per point, according to our points and miles valuations.

Hot Tip: Learn about the best ways to redeem IHG One Rewards points for maximum value, as well as the best IHG luxury hotels to book with points.

Other Ways To Use Points for Six Senses Stays

Besides redeeming IHG One Rewards points at specific Six Senses properties, there aren’t any unique ways to book award stays here.

The rest of our point redemption recommendations are centered around getting fixed value from credit card points on stays booked through each program’s travel portal.

Redeeming Chase Ultimate Rewards Points

Chase Ultimate Rewards is Chase’s propriety points program. When you make purchases on specific credit cards, you will earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points. Importantly, you’ll get anywhere from 1 to 1.5 cents per point of value when you redeem your points via the Chase travel portal.

If you have the Chase Freedom Flex℠, Chase Freedom Unlimited®, Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, or Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card, you’ll get 1 cent per point of value. But if you want to get 1.25 cents per point of value (25% more), you need to hold the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. Lastly, there’s just 1 Chase credit card that can get you 1.5 cents per point of value: Chase Sapphire Reserve®.

For example, if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred card and want to book a $1,000 stay at a Six Senses property via the Chase travel portal, you will only redeem 80,000 Ultimate Rewards points, as opposed to 100,000 points!

Hot Tip: IHG One Rewards is a 1:1 Chase transfer partner, allowing you to top off your account whenever you need!

Redeeming Amex Membership Rewards Points

Amex has its own points program called Amex Membership Rewards. This excellent program boasts a transferable currency, though when you book stays through AmexTravel.com, you’ll get a redemption value of 0.7 to 1 cent per point.

On eligible Six Senses stays booked through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts (discussed below), you’ll get 1 cent per point of value. Otherwise, you’ll get 0.7 cents per point.

As you can tell, this redemption value isn’t as good as what you’d get through Chase Travel, but it’s still an option if you have tons of Amex points to use.

Redeeming Citi ThankYou Points

Citi’s points program is called ThankYou Rewards, and if you redeem your points through the Citi Travel Center, you’ll get a fixed value of 1 cent per point.

Other ways to redeem Citi ThankYou Points through the Citi Travel Center include flights, cruises, and car rentals, in addition to hotel stays.

Redeeming Capital One Miles

Capital One Miles is the last rewards program we’ll discuss — you earn Capital One miles via the issuer’s suite of Venture and Spark credit cards.

To redeem your miles for Six Senses stays, redeem through Capital One Travel for a flat value of 1 cent per point.

Book as an InterContinental Ambassador

If you’re an InterContinental Ambassador, Royal Ambassador, or Kimpton Inner Circle member, you’re entitled to the following benefits, even on award stays:

  • Complimentary breakfast in the main restaurant for 2 guests per day
  • A Signature Amenity, subject to availability and confirmed on arrival, of either 1 local experience per stay or a complimentary 50-minute Six Senses Spa massage for 2
  • Complimentary 1-category room upgrade, subject to availability (excludes 2-bedroom or greater suites or villas and residences)
  • 4 p.m. late check-out, subject to availability (guaranteed for Royal Ambassador and Kimpton Inner Circle members)
  • 10 a.m. early check-in, subject to availability (guaranteed for Royal Ambassador and Kimpton Inner Circle members)
    • If the room is not available at 10 a.m., the member can access another available room until the original room becomes available for check-in
  • Wellness Platter (welcome amenity) upon arrival
  • Free Wi-Fi

On top of the perks above, Ambassadors also receive $20 restaurant and bar credit per stay, complimentary IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status, and 1 free night certificate (up to 40,000 points) for select members who join and/or renew their membership.

Hot Tip: You can pay $200 per year to become an InterContinental Ambassador, which would enable you to enjoy all these perks at Six Senses properties.

Book via Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts

The Fine Hotels & Resorts program is available to select American Express cardmembers who hold certain cards, including The Platinum Card® from American Express, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, and Centurion® Card from American Express.

If you’re an eligible cardmember and book a Fine Hotels & Resorts stay using one of the cards mentioned above, you’ll receive the following benefits:

  • Daily breakfast for 2
  • A space-available room upgrade upon arrival
  • Guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout
  • 12 p.m. early check-in, subject to availability
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • A property amenity valued at a minimum of $100, such as a food and beverage credit or a spa credit

The following Six Senses properties participate in the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts program:

  • Six Senses Douro Valley
  • Six Senses Fiji
  • Six Senses Laamu
  • Six Senses Ninh Van Bay
  • Six Senses Yao Noi
  • Six Senses Zighy Bay

Hot Tip: When you hold the Amex Platinum card, you’ll get up to $200 in hotel statement credits on prepaid Fine Hotels & Resorts stays booked through AmexTravel.com.

Using the Citi Prestige® Card Fourth-Night Free Benefit

The recently discontinued Citi Prestige card has a fantastic fourth-night-free benefit, which confers a complimentary fourth night on bookings of 4 consecutive nights or more (up to 2x per calendar year) for bookings made through the ThankYou Rewards website or over the phone by calling 800-THANK-YOU.

This is a fantastic way to get up to 25% off of your Six Senses hotel stay!

While the Citi Prestige card is not open to new applicants, the perk is still available to existing cardholders.

1. Six Senses Laamu (Maldives)

Six Senses Laamu

Our top Six Senses property is Six Senses Laamu, located in the Maldivian atoll of Laamu. To get to this resort in the southern Maldives, you’ll take a seaplane flight followed by a speedboat ride.

This sustainable property — part of the Maldives Underwater Initiative — collaborates with 3 partner NGOs to undertake educational, research, and outreach objectives.

In total, there are 97 water and beach villas, each thoughtfully appointed with either 1 king bed or 2 twin beds, Bose entertainment system, stunning sea views, a coffee/tea machine, flat-screen TV, and a full minibar. In standard beach villas, you can enjoy private gardens, private beach access, a panoramic, treetop-level upper dining deck, outdoor bathroom, rain shower, dual vanities, and a glass, sunken bathtub.

The property boasts 3 full-service restaurants, 2 bars, and an ice cream and sorbet parlor! Several of these amenities happen to be located in what’s the largest overwater amenities facility in the Maldives. It consists of 2 restaurants, a wine cellar, the resort’s signature cocktail bar, the dive center, a retail boutique, and the ice cream parlor!

Other amenities include an outdoor pool, a spa, a kids’ club, a cinema, a library, and event space.

Six Senses Laamu participates in IHG Rewards, and rooms can typically be booked for around 100,000 IHG One Rewards points per night.

2. Six Senses Fiji

Six Senses Fiji

Situated on a white-sand beach accessible via speedboat or helicopter ride, Six Senses Fiji is the signature luxury resort in the South Pacific.

This property is endlessly committed to sustainability. In fact, it’s home to 39 Fijian crested iguanas, of which there are less than 5,000 left in the world. With just 24 pool villas on the property, you’ll enjoy personalized service with state-of-the-art amenities.

Standard villas start at 1,200 square feet and have a private outdoor deck, oversized living area, and outdoor bath and shower. Other amenities include a sound system, flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, wine fridge, minibar, and in-room yoga mats.

There are 5 dining options, including 3 full-service restaurants, a cocktail lounge and bar, and a grab-and-go deli.

Enjoy a spa treatment, a swim at the outdoor pool, private beach access, a host of water sports, a movie theater, cooking classes, and much more here.

To book a reward stay here, you’ll need to redeem around 100,000 IHG One Rewards points per night.

Cash rates range from about $830 to about $1,200 per night, with the average rate coming in at around $880 per night.

Hot Tip: Save some money by flying to the South Pacific using points and miles.

3. Six Senses Yao Noi (Thailand)

Six Senses Yao Noi

Six Senses Yao Noi is one of Thailand’s most elite luxury resorts, located in Phang Nga Bay, which boasts one of the world’s most incredible seascapes. Just a 45-minute speedboat right from Phuket or Krabi, this property is also a 9-minute walk from Klong Jark Beach and around a mile from Pasai Beach.

The “base” villas are 1,658 square feet and feature fantastic views of the lush plantation, plus a private pool and terrace. You’ll also find a private bar, wine fridge, espresso and tea machine, Bose entertainment system, flat-screen TV, separate bedroom and sitting room, and sun loungers on each terrace. Bathrooms are both indoors and outdoors — each one has 2 showers and double vanities.

Elsewhere on the property, you can choose from 4 restaurants and bars, as well as in-villa dining. Enjoy a treatment at the spa, get a workout in, relax in the sauna and steam room, take yoga classes, watch a movie at the cinema, check out the infinity pool, walk directly on the beach, or book a variety of local activities.

This property costs around 100,000 to 110,000 IHG One Rewards points per night when booking an award stay.

This property has a wild range of cash rates. It can start at $575 per night on the low end or go as high as $1,750 per night. On average, you can expect a rate of around $1,000 per night.

4. Six Senses Ninh Van Bay (Vietnam)

Six Senses Ninh Van Bay

Six Senses Ninh Van Bay is a dramatic masterpiece of opulence in Vietnam — it looks out to the East Vietnam Sea and is located on a rocky beach, giving the property an aura of peace and serenity.

This resort has standard villas that measure 1,700 square feet in size and are perched on a hilltop with a plunge pool and deck.

Inside your villa, you’ll find a plush king bed, mosquito netting, a mini wine cellar, a tea and coffee machine, a flat-screen TV with movies on request, and majestic views of the sea. The spacious bathrooms feature walk-in closets, twin vanities, a hand-crafted wooden bathtub, and luxury bath products.

The resort also has a wine cave, a casual beach bar, poolside bites, a bayside aperitivo bar, and 2 full-service restaurants.

Enjoy the spa that features open-air treatment rooms, a yoga pavilion, a hair salon, a gym, snorkeling, tennis courts, and a variety of local activities.

Six Senses Ninh Van Bay participates in IHG One Rewards and can be booked for around 75,000 IHG One Rewards points per night.

This property also fluctuates wildly in price. On the low side, you’ll pay around $600 per night, and about $1,400 on the high end. The average cost is around $825 per night.

5. Six Senses Zighy Bay (Oman)

Six Senses Zighy Bay
Six Senses Zighy Bay. Image Credit: Six Senses

Perhaps the most unique resort in the Six Senses portfolio, this jewel of Omani excellence is Six Senses’ first foray into the Middle East, blending a unique style with authentic and exceptional service.

The picturesque mountain resort is built between the Gulf of Oman and the Hajar Mountains and is a masterpiece to behold.

Dubai (DXB) is the main gateway to reach this resort, as it’s much closer than the Omani capital of Muscat. Roughly a 2-hour drive from Dubai, guests can pick between several dramatic arrival experiences including a 4×4 drive through the mountains, a 15-minute speedboat ride from a nearby port, or even strapped to the resort’s professional paraglider!

The resort’s incredible villas have at least 882 square feet of space and are each furnished with organic, über-comfortable beds, a personal sand garden, an outdoor patio, and a private pool. You’ll also find a plush daybed, flat-screen TV, in-room wine fridge, espresso machine, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms feature double vanities, separate water closets, a deep soaking tub, and even an outdoor shower.

The property has a total of 6 dining options, including 4 restaurants, a cocktail and juice bar, and a wine cellar.

Popular activities and amenities include microlight flights, diving, paragliding, hidden village treks, hiking, fishing, boat cruises, a private cinema, a spa with 2 hammams and an ice cave, outdoor yoga, a fitness center, and so much more!

This property doesn’t currently allow IHG One Rewards redemptions, and a stay at Zighy Bay certainly isn’t cheap. You can expect to pay around $900 per night in the low season, up to $3,200 during the high season, and around $2,000 per night on average.

Bottom Line: Six Senses Zighy Bay offers an incredible desert mountain experience that you probably never thought existed! This is probably Six Senses’ most unique property, with incredible amenities and the utmost seclusion.

6. Six Senses Douro Valley (Portugal)

Six Senses Douro Valley
Six Senses Douro Valley. Image Credit: Six Senses

Six Senses Douro Valley is a luxe hillside resort property located in the heart of Portugal’s wine country. It’s also around 8 miles from Lamego Castle, a popular 19th-century tourist attraction.

Each room starts at 430 square feet and is furnished with a king or queen bed, a spacious sitting area, minibar, flat-screen TV, coffee/tea machine, pillow menu, and views of the terrace, vineyards, or courtyard. The open bathroom has double vanities, a walk-in rain shower, a soaking tub, and posh bath products.

Dining options consist of a signature restaurant with an open kitchen and terrace for alfresco dining, a “wine library,” also with a terrace, a “Summer Garden” open from June through September, and more.

The oversized Six Senses Spa contains treatment rooms, a heated indoor pool, a refreshment bar, and a gym. Elsewhere on the property, you’ll also find an outdoor infinity pool, a library, and the Activities Hut with paddle tennis, petanque, badminton, table tennis, and more.

Sadly, this property doesn’t currently allow IHG One Rewards redemptions. If you decide to visit and pay cash, rooms go for around $325 per night in the low season, around $825 per night in the high season, and around $700 per night on average.

7. Six Senses Thimphu (Bhutan)

Six Senses Thimphu
Six Senses Thimphu. Image Credit: Six Senses

Six Senses Thimphu is just 1 of several outposts in Bhutan. While it may surprise you to learn there are multiple Six Senses properties in this small nation, it makes sense given the country’s dedication to preserving the natural environment, its immense natural landscape, and the spirituality of its people.

Easily accessible from Bhutan’s capital, Six Senses Thimphu is our favorite Bhutanese Six Senses — not only because of its phenomenal design and setting among truly mythical scenery, but also because of its commitment to sustainable luxury.

There are just 25 villas and suites here. Standard accommodations start at 721 square feet — standard Lodge Suites boast floor-to-ceiling windows, private outdoor decks, and dramatic views of the Thimphu Valley. You’ll also find thoughtful furnishings, a spacious living area, flat-screen TV, couch, traditional Bukhari wood-burning stove/fireplace, writing desk, wine fridge, minibar, tea/coffee machine, yoga mats, and a Bose speaker system. The bathroom features a deep soaking tub, double vanities, a water closet, walk-in rain shower, and eco-friendly luxury amenities.

This resort has a signature Bhutanese restaurant, an eclectic organic restaurant, and an afternoon hike-and-tea experience with panoramic Thimphu valley views.

Be sure to relax at the spa, whether it be at the heated pool, gym, sauna, hot-stone bath, yoga pavilion, or in a treatment room. There are plenty of local activities to partake in, too!

Six Senses Thimphu doesn’t currently allow IHG One Rewards redemptions. You can expect to pay around $1,500 per night during the low season, $1,900 per night during high season, and around $1,700 per night on average.

This clifftop resort has posh villas, each with at least 1,160 square feet of real estate and sweeping ocean views. The suites are each equipped with plush beds, a flat-screen LED TV, an in-room bar, a Tanamera coffee machine, a tea machine, free Wi-Fi, and an outdoor deck. The bathroom is outfitted with double vanities, a gigantic outdoor deep soaking tub, a walk-in shower, and a water closet.
