Hotel News

Postcard Cabins

Marriott Bonvoy announced last December that it had acquired Postcard Cabins (formerly known as Getaway Outposts), and it looks like some of the properties are now bookable on Marriott’s website. As reported by The Points Guy, the following properties are available:

However, while you can earn points on your reservation, booking with Marriott Bonvoy points is currently unavailable. On these reservations, you’ll earn 10 points per $1 spent and 1 Elite Night Credit per night.

Park Hyatt Johannesburg Delayed — Again

If you were excited for the opening of the much-awaited Park Hyatt Johannesburg, you’ll have to wait a little longer.

Initially, the Park Hyatt Johannesburg was expected to open on April 1, but it was later rescheduled to June 1. Now, a banner on the hotel’s website reads: “Now accepting reservations for stays from August 1st, 2025 and beyond.”

The hotel, a conversion of the Winston Hotel, will have 31 guest rooms and suites. All rooms will have double sinks, an open-plan shower, Egyptian bedding, and a private lounge, and some suites will have private patios. The Park Hyatt Johannesburg will boast a pool, a spa, a fitness center, and meeting and event spaces. The hotel will also have a dining room, a cigar lounge, and a terrace.

It also appears that the hotel went up a category. When we first reported the delay, the Park Hyatt Johannesburg was a Category 5 hotel.

Now, it is a Category 6, meaning awards range from 21,000 points per night (off peak) to 29,000 points per night (peak).

Hilton’s Tru Brand Poised For Growth in Vietnam

Hilton has big plans for its budget Tru brand in Asia. The hotel giant has announced the opening of the first 4 of 14 Tru by Hilton hotels in Vietnam. The first batch of hotels will open by the end of the year, bringing Hilton’s pipeline in Vietnam to 29.

This is a pretty big deal, as Hilton currently has just 6 hotels open in Vietnam, which include Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Curio Collection by Hilton, and Hilton Garden Inn brands.

Still, Hilton clearly sees Vietnam as a crucial market in Asia. Hilton said Tru’s arrival in Vietnam is part of a “robust growth momentum in Southeast Asia.”

“Vietnam is emerging as one of Asia’s premier travel destinations, underpinned by rapidly growing domestic demand, and rising international arrivals,” said Alan Watts, Asia Pacific president at Hilton. “Tru by Hilton addresses a gap in the market – bringing an energetic and playful brand to 14 cities in Vietnam – and will appeal to guests seeking a vibrant and practical hotel stay.”

Final Thoughts

This was another exciting week, as new hotels opened worldwide, including California and Malaysia, and others were planned for the Texas Hill Country, France, and Thailand.

As always, we’ll be back here next week with the hotel news you may have missed!
