Earlier this year, I set out on a 1-year journey across Asia, staying at dozens of hotels across major hotel programs using points to cover many of those nights.

For travelers like me who spend several nights a year in hotels, loyalty can turn an ordinary hotel bill into something considerably more valuable. Choosing the right hotel loyalty program can be just as important as opening the right credit card.

Hilton Honors, Marriott Bonvoy, and World of Hyatt are 3 of the most compelling hotel loyalty programs, and each does different things well. The program I choose often depends on where I’m traveling, which hotels are available, and how much I’m paying in cash versus redeeming points. Here’s a look at each major hotel program and which one has delivered the most value in 2026.

Why I Focused on Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt

Hotel loyalty has changed dramatically over the past decade. While there are numerous hotel programs, the 3 I tend to focus on most are Hilton Honors, Marriott Bonvoy, and World of Hyatt.

All 3 programs offer travelers numerous perks, including the ability to earn and redeem points for free nights. Between credit card transfer partners, credit card welcome offers, spending on co-branded hotel cards, and paid hotel stays, it can be relatively easy to accrue a large number of points.

The Westin Jakarta room side view
I have redeemed over 1 million Marriott points for free hotel nights over the last decade.

Each loyalty program’s points are worth a different amount. According to our current valuations:

  • Hilton Honors points are worth 0.5 cents apiece
  • Marriott Bonvoy points are worth 0.7 cents apiece
  • World of Hyatt points are worth 1.4 cents apiece

That’s a pretty dramatic difference, and World of Hyatt seems like the obvious winner on paper. However, points are only valuable if I can actually get good value for them, and that’s where the comparison gets interesting.

For example, I visited several cities this year that did not have a Hyatt property. This is where Marriott and Hilton tend to shine with much larger global footprints. This matters a lot to me — I don’t want to earn hundreds of thousands of points only to discover I can’t find a hotel when I need one.

How Each Hotel Program Compared

This year, I have spent over 50 hotel nights at these 3 major hotel programs, including both cash and points stays. Those stays have been a combination of basic, limited-service properties and ultra-luxurious hotels, including the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, Conrad Bangkok, Conrad Bali, The Westin Jakarta, and the Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, a Luxury Collection Hotel.

To see which program delivered the most value, I compared my average cash rates, points rates, and redemption values. Here’s how the programs stacked up:

So which program brought me the most value? The answer depends on what you mean by “value.” If value means the most valuable points, Hyatt wins. Despite having the smallest global footprint among the major chains, Hyatt consistently delivered the highest redemption value for me.

However, if value means the easiest program for a frequent traveler to use almost anywhere, both Hilton and Marriott have a much stronger claim.

When I factor in how easy it is to earn various hotel points, Hilton and Marriott are more competitive than World of Hyatt. Both the Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy programs offer numerous co-branded cards that make it easy to earn a large number of points.

All 3 programs have several aspirational properties across Asia where points can potentially deliver outsized value. Still, Marriott has provided me the most value with more redemption opportunities.

Hot Tip:

Whichever loyalty program you choose, using a co-branded card will result in more perks and benefits. Here are our top picks with World of Hyatt, Marriott Bonvoy, and Hilton Honors.

Other Factors To Consider

Redemption value is important, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. When comparing hotel loyalty programs, it’s important to look beyond the points per stay.

Loyalty Program Benefits

One of the major perks of Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy is the fifth-night-free benefit. If you’re booking 5 consecutive nights entirely with points, Hilton and Marriott will give you the fifth night free.

That’s a 20% discount on the award cost of a 5-night stay, assuming the stay qualifies. Unfortunately, World of Hyatt does not provide this benefit. This is a major deciding factor for me, particularly during longer hotel stays. Over the years, this benefit has saved me well over 100,000 points.

Bottom Line:

Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy offer a valuable fifth-night-free benefit on eligible award stays, while World of Hyatt does not offer a comparable benefit.

Elite Status Makes a Huge Difference

Another major thing to consider is my elite status in hotel loyalty programs and how that affects the value.

For example, I have Hilton Honors Diamond elite status, which provides me with useful benefits, including food and beverage credits or complimentary breakfast, room upgrades when available, 100% bonus points on stays, executive lounge access at participating properties, and late checkout when available.

Hilton Honors Diamond elite status provides me with terrific benefits.

By comparison, I only have World of Hyatt Discoverist status, which offers far fewer benefits. Still, this plays a major role when choosing hotels. Hyatt’s top-tier Globalist status is among the most valuable elite hotel statuses.

Hilton and Marriott have co-branded credit cards that provide excellent elite status: the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card offers complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status, and the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card provides Hilton Honors Diamond elite status.

World of Hyatt does not provide automatic Globalist status with any cards. For travelers who can realistically reach Globalist, Hyatt remains extremely difficult to beat.

Dynamic Pricing Makes Things More Complicated

Neither Hilton nor Marriott has a traditional fixed award chart. Instead, both programs use dynamic pricing, so the number of points required can fluctuate based on factors such as the hotel, date, and demand.

That can make planning a little more challenging, since the same hotel can cost dramatically different amounts of points depending on when you stay. But I also see this as an opportunity.

I’ve come across plenty of hotels where redeeming points provides excellent value, particularly when cash rates spike. In those situations, the points price doesn’t always increase as much as the cash rate, creating some surprisingly lucrative redemption opportunities.

On the other hand, World of Hyatt has an award chart with tiers. Award pricing can vary significantly across tiers, but you know exactly how many points you need for an award night, depending on the date of your stay. This makes it significantly easier to save toward a specific redemption.

Final Thoughts

There isn’t a single hotel loyalty program that wins for every traveler. For those focusing on redemption value, World of Hyatt tends to come out ahead — but it has a smaller footprint. If every program had the same number of hotels, this comparison would be easy, and World of Hyatt would win by a wide margin.

However, Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors have provided me with above-average value thanks to elite status and co-branded credit cards. Considering the points rate relative to cash rates, the value of status, and the ease of earning points, Marriott Bonvoy has delivered the most value in 2026.
