Iberia Airlines is launching a new flight between Madrid and Newark, New Jersey. The route, which begins daily in the spring of 2026, is in addition to the twice-daily flights the airline already operates between Madrid and New York (JFK) in the region.

Below, we’ll explain everything you need to know about this new route.

Iberia To Fly Between Madrid and Newark

The new flight on Iberia between Madrid (MAD) and Newark (EWR) launches on March 29, 2026, a date which Iberia considers the start of its summer season. Iberia is considering this new flight a third option in the New York Tri-State area, as it already operates flights twice daily between Madrid and New York (JFK).

Thus, for the summer season of 2026, Iberia will offer 350,000 seats between Madrid and the New York City metropolitan area (40% more than in 2025), thanks to this additional flight to and from Newark. The flight will be operated on Iberia’s A321XLR aircraft, a single-aisle plane that reduces Iberia’s fuel consumption by 40% compared to other long-haul aircraft. It has a total of 182 seats, 14 of which are designated as business-class seats.

Flights aren’t yet available for purchase, but our best estimate is that they’ll offer competitive pricing against United Airlines‘ existing nonstop flight between Newark and Madrid. Lately, Iberia has been offering round-trip, discounted flights between the U.S. and Spain for as low as $328 round-trip or 6,400 Avios each way in economy. During peak season, though, like summer or Christmas, these rates can be significantly higher, especially since Iberia has recently revamped its award chart pricing.

Iberia Is Betting on Its Transatlantic Expansion With Its New A321XLR Planes

This new route seems like a power play from Iberia, an airline that is betting heavily on expanding its North American routes with its new, more fuel-efficient aircraft.

“The incoporation of Newark not only reinforces our presence in New York with a third daily service, but also offers additional options for consumers, offering more flexibility when it comes to fares and schedules.”

María Jesús López Solás, commercial director for Iberia’s network and partnership development

Iberia flies to 10 destinations in the U.S. and is gradually introducing its A321XLR on North American routes, starting with Boston and Puerto Rico. This announcement comes shortly after Iberia said the airline will be launching routes between Madrid and Toronto (starting June 13, 2026) and Monterrey, Mexico (starting June 2, 2026).

This is part of Iberia’s 2030 Global Destination Flight Plan, seeing the airline invest millions of euros in renovating and expanding its fleet from 48 to 70 planes, thereby enhancing connections between Europe and the Americas.

Hot Tip:

Don’t forget that the Club Iberia Plus program is a 1:1 transfer partner of programs like Chase Ultimate Rewards and Amex Membership Rewards. Keep an eye out for 20% or 30% transfer bonus offers that can easily turn your credit card points into more Avios for upcoming award bookings.

Final Thoughts

Madrid and the New York area are already well-connected, thanks to airlines like Iberia, Delta, American, and United, which all operate nonstop flights from New York City area airports. However, Iberia’s new route addition between Madrid and Newark further enhances connectivity, offering travelers more options to fly between the 2 countries.
