IHG announced on February 8 that it had signed agreements for 2 new hotels in Shanghai, bolstering its already sizable presence in Greater China.
Here’s what you need to know!
2 New Hotels Part of Resort With World’s Largest Indoor Ski Park
The Crowne Plaza Shanghai Snow World and Shanghai Snow World Hotel, Vignette Collection are scheduled to open for guests in 2024. Both hotels will be part of the Shanghai Yaoxue Snow World Complex, which is expected to become the world’s largest alpine-themed indoor ski park.
The Shanghai Snow World will feature more than 270 rooms in 7 different combinations, while the Crowne Plaza Shanghai Snow World will have 375 rooms in 7 different combinations.
Not much is known about the hotels just yet, but IHG is billing the Crowne Plaza Shanghai Snow World and Shanghai Snow World Hotel as “luxury and boutique” and “premium resort” hotels, respectively.
“We are delighted to introduce two of our proud hotel brands to the Shanghai Yaoxue Snow World Complex as we work with other parties to advance the tourism market in-depth in Shanghai and China,” Kent Sun, Chief Development Officer, IHG Greater China, said in a statement.
When they open, the Crowne Plaza Shanghai Snow World and Shanghai Snow World Hotel, Vignette Collection will join more than 5 dozen other IHG properties in and around Shanghai. These include several Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, and Intercontinental hotels. Many IHG hotels in Shanghai are competitively priced, with several starting at just 8,000 IHG One Rewards points per night.
IHG currently has a whopping 600 hotels, with nearly 500 more in the pipeline, in China alone. The chain is focusing on the demand for so-called “bleisure” (business and leisure) travel in the Chinese market, which is reopening for tourism for the first time since the pandemic.
This signing also marks the Vignette Collection’s first appearance in Greater China. IHG’s newest brand launched in 2021 and focuses on opening new hotels or renovating existing properties in popular tourism destinations. Other Vignette properties worldwide can be found in Australia, Portugal, Thailand, and more.
China has become an up-and-coming winter sports destination after the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, so this hotel is great news for IHG fans and skiers alike. While we’re still learning about both hotels, now’s a good time to chart out your IHG points strategy for a stay when they both open next year!
