Last year, IHG and Iberostar announced that the 2 chains had formed a partnership for resorts and all-inclusive hotels.

The partnership between the 2 brands has been referred to as a “strategic alliance,” and the result is IHG’s 18th brand.

And now, this new partnership has gone live, which opens up exciting new opportunities for IHG loyalists.

Here’s what you need to know!

A Partnership, Not an Acquisition

Rather than acquiring Iberostar — a sizable company on its own — outright, U.K.-based IHG decided the best approach was forging a partnership that would be beneficial for both companies.

Basically, Iberostar will maintain full ownership of its properties and will be happy to access the mammoth footprint of the IHG chain — including its millions of loyalty program members — and IHG is pleased to suddenly have a significant presence in an important and growing sector of the hotel industry: all-inclusive resorts.

The new brand is known as “Iberostar Beachfront Resorts” and adds almost 25,000 additional rooms to IHG’s global portfolio.

You can find Iberostar Beachfront Resorts in top locations around the world, including numerous properties in Spain and countries popular with all-inclusive vacationers including the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica, and more.

Iberostar Beachfront Resorts and IHG One Rewards

Iberostar Beachfront Resorts now officially participate in the IHG One Rewards program. This means members will be able to earn points for stays and receive on-property perks that they’re entitled to if they’ve achieved IHG elite status. And soon, you’ll be able to book Reward Nights, access confirmable suite upgrades, and receive food and beverages.

If your balance is low and you need to earn IHG One Rewards points, you have a few options. IHG offers 3 credit cards — 2 personal and 1 business — all issued by Chase. You can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards points to IHG One Rewards at a 1:1 ratio.

Hot Tip:

Final Thoughts

This is a very interesting partnership between IHG and Iberostar. Rather than an acquisition, the 2 companies chose to pursue a partnership that would be beneficial for both.

IHG has gained its 18th brand and, critically, has expanded significantly in the burgeoning all-inclusive resort segment. And Iberostar has partnered with a giant in the hotel world, giving it exposure to many millions of potential guests.

And at the end of the day, all of it is good news for fans of IHG, as there are numerous new resorts at which members can earn and redeem points as well as leverage elite benefits.
