JetBlue appears to have raised TAP Portugal award rates just days after announcing the ability to redeem TrueBlue points to book flights on TAP Portugal and introducing reciprocal loyalty benefits.

Let’s look at the specifics and see which awards have changed.

JetBlue and TAP Reciprocal Benefits

Alongside the announcement of new reciprocal loyalty benefits between their loyalty programs — JetBlue TrueBlue and TAP Portugal’s Miles&Go — members can earn and redeem points through each other’s programs.

For travelers based in the U.S., the key aspect of this enhanced partnership is the ability to earn and redeem TrueBlue points with TAP Portugal.

If you have a healthy balance of JetBlue TrueBlue points and find your redemption options on JetBlue less than exciting, you now have the opportunity to book TAP Portugal flights in both economy and business class to Europe and beyond.

Although there are still a few reasonably priced redemptions available, it has come to light that JetBlue has increased award pricing on certain flights shortly after the announcement regarding the enhancement of the partnership between the 2 airlines.

Some Awards Have Increased

For starters, there is no award chart for TAP Portugal redemptions with TrueBlue points. However, one-way awards from the Northeast United States, such as New York and Boston to Portugal, continue to be priced at 19,000 points for economy and 59,000 points for business class.

However, there has been an increase in economy awards from non-Northeast cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, and Miami, which have nearly doubled and now cost 34,900 points one-way to Lisbon.

Additionally, we noticed that the pricing for business-class awards remains the same for Northeast cities like Boston (BOS) and New York (JFK), which are set at 59,000 points. Unfortunately, we could not locate any additional business-class award availability on TAP using TrueBlue points from any other major U.S. city outside of Boston and New York.

This may indicate things to come since economy awards got more expensive from many U.S. cities outside of the Northeast. This means we can expect TAP business class to also increase in price from various U.S. cities when you want to use TrueBlue points.

Hot Tip:

Don’t have any JetBlue TrueBlue points? Remember that you can transfer your American Express Membership Rewards (1:0.8 ratio) or Chase Ultimate Rewards points (1:1 ratio) to JetBlue. You also can earn TrueBlue points from one of our best credit cards for JetBlue flyers.

Final Thoughts

Just days after introducing some additional reciprocal benefits as a result of its new partnership with TAP Portugal, JetBlue appears to have devalued several TAP Portugal award redemptions. Fares have nearly doubled from various non-Northeast airports in the U.S.

We’re curious about what this means when TAP’s business class award space becomes available with JetBlue. It likely means the rates will soar, as they have for economy awards in non-Northeast cities. We can only wait and see what the future holds.
