There’s nothing worse than spending money on a vacation only to have the trip ruined by bad weather.

To protect your trip, JetBlue Vacations is adding a unique twist to its already innovative travel offerings by partnering with WeatherPromise to offer rain protection. This new benefit aims to give travelers peace of mind by reimbursing them if their trip experiences excessive rain.

At first glance, it sounds like a no-brainer — after all, who wants bad weather to ruin a well-planned getaway? But as with any new feature, the devil is in the details.

How the Rain Protection Benefit Works

When you book an eligible Flight + Hotel package through JetBlue Vacations, you can now protect your trip against the unexpected. If your destination experiences heavy rains, you can be reimbursed, ensuring you don’t lose value on your vacation investment.

WeatherPromise uses a combination of historical weather data, trip length, and destination-specific thresholds to determine what qualifies as “excessive rain.” If your trip meets these criteria, you’re automatically reimbursed — no burdensome paperwork required.

However, you won’t see the rain protection as an extra to add to your booking before payment.

A JetBlue spokesperson explains that “everything happens after your booking is complete.” After you make an eligible JetBlue Vacations booking, “You’ll receive an offer via email with details on how to take advantage of it. Since it’s not part of the actual booking flow, you won’t see it on the extras page or as an add-on at checkout — everything happens after your booking is complete.”

This means that although the offer isn’t prominent during the booking process, it will land in your inbox, giving you a chance to activate your coverage without any extra hassle.

The beauty of this benefit is its flexibility. It covers all trip components — flights, hotels, car rentals, and even activities booked through JetBlue Vacations — so you’re protected no matter how you plan your escape. However, it’s important to note that this benefit is managed entirely by WeatherPromise, and you should review the company’s terms and conditions for specifics.

The cost of adding this protection will be a percentage of your overall trip cost. Costs will also go up during periods with historically higher chances of rain, according to a spokesperson for JetBlue.

Hot Tip:

Adding WeatherPromise for JetBlue’s new rain protection benefit isn’t free, and the cost will vary from trip to trip, depending on several factors. However, protections against rain ruining your trip aren’t available with most travel insurance plans or credit cards that provide travel insurance, meaning you might be willing to pay to add this service to your trip due to a lack of other options.

Why This Matters for Travelers

For those who’ve experienced vacation setbacks due to bad weather, this new benefit is a welcome change. It shows JetBlue’s commitment to not just booking trips but also protecting your travel investment. With weather being an uncontrollable factor, having a safety net means you can book with confidence — even if the skies open up on your getaway. However, it’s crucial to stay informed about how “excessive rain” is defined and ensure your trip qualifies for the protection.

Travelers should also note that while this benefit is a great value-add, it isn’t integrated into the initial booking process. To take full advantage, make sure to read your post-booking emails carefully and activate the offer promptly. It’s a small extra step that can save you a lot of hassle later.

Final Thoughts

JetBlue Vacations’ new rain protection benefit is a promising development for travelers who want to safeguard their trips against unpredictable weather.

By partnering with WeatherPromise, JetBlue is demonstrating its commitment to enhancing the overall travel experience. Although the offer requires some post-booking activation, its potential to reclaim vacation value makes it worth the extra effort. If you’re planning your next getaway, keep an eye on your email for that offer, and be sure to activate your coverage.
