There’s a new way to pay for your JetBlue flights. The airline is now accepting Venmo payments — a first in the industry.

Here’s what travelers should know about this new way to pay for their upcoming JetBlue reservations.

JetBlue Now Accepting Venmo

Venmo is a U.S.-based mobile payment service that launched in 2009. It was purchased by PayPal in 2013. It’s primarily used for peer-to-peer payments. Many payments using Venmo don’t incur a processing fee, such as online purchases or sending money to another user from your debit card, Venmo balance, or bank account. Sending money to another user from your credit card has a 3% processing fee, however.

And while Venmo might be most well-known as a way to repay your friends after a night out together or buy Girl Scout cookies in front of the supermarket when you don’t have any cash, you also can use it to book a flight with JetBlue as of today.

“We’re continually looking for ways to make it easier to book a JetBlue flight on our website and mobile app,” said Carol Clements, chief digital and technology officer at JetBlue. “Adding Venmo offers a seamless payment option for customers who enjoy the ease and convenience of the Venmo platform.”

The airline announced that payments using Venmo are available on jetblue.com and are coming to the JetBlue mobile app “in the coming months.” With this new payment option, travelers will be able to book flights using their Venmo balance, bank account, debit card, or credit card.

To pay for your flight with Venmo, look for the More Payment Options section on the payment page when booking a flight.

Should You Pay for JetBlue Flights With Venmo?

While this new option is convenient, paying for flights with Venmo may not be your best option. We recommend booking flights with a rewards credit card that earns points on the payment — something paying with Venmo won’t do. Additionally, many credit cards provide built-in travel insurance in case something goes wrong during your trip.

As long as you pay off the credit card bill when it comes, you won’t pay any fees above the cost of booking a JetBlue flight with Venmo. What you will get, however, is extra points and extra peace of mind.

Final Thoughts

JetBlue is now accepting Venmo as a payment method when booking flights. It’s convenient, novel, and likely to have fans. However, it isn’t the most rewarding way to pay for flights, so take that into account when considering your payment options for JetBlue flights.
