Korean Air Reveals What Will Happen to Asiana Miles After the Merger

Korean Air has revealed how it will fold Asiana Club into its SKYPASS loyalty program when the 2 airlines fully integrate on December 17, 2026.

The good news is that Asiana members won’t immediately lose their miles or be forced to convert them. However, the value of your miles will depend on how you earned them — and there are a few important details to understand before making any changes.

What Happens to Your Asiana Miles After the Merger?

Your Asiana Miles Will Move to Your SKYPASS Account

On December 17, 2026, existing Asiana Club mileage balances will automatically move to members’ SKYPASS accounts.

However, that does not mean Asiana miles will immediately become SKYPASS miles. Instead, members will see and manage 2 separate balances within the same SKYPASS account: their existing SKYPASS miles and their transferred Asiana miles.

Before the integration, Asiana Club members should use Korean Air’s account-linking tool to connect their Asiana and SKYPASS accounts. Once the accounts are linked, the mileage transfer should happen automatically without any additional action.

You Can Keep Using Asiana Miles for 10 Years

Korean Air will continue operating Asiana miles separately for 10 years after the integration.

During that time, members can keep their Asiana miles and redeem them separately, including for award flights and upgrades. Korean Air says Asiana members will continue to have access to the existing Asiana award chart during this period.

However, Asiana miles and SKYPASS miles cannot be combined for a single redemption unless the entire Asiana balance is converted into SKYPASS miles.

Any Asiana miles remaining after the 10-year period will automatically convert to SKYPASS miles.

Flight Miles Convert at 1:1, but Partner Miles Take a Hit

Asiana members can choose to convert their entire Asiana mileage balance to SKYPASS at any time, but the conversion rate depends on how those miles were earned:

• Miles earned by flying with Asiana or a Star Alliance partner will convert at a 1:1 ratio. For example, 10,000 flight miles will become 10,000 SKYPASS miles.
• Miles earned through credit cards or other partners will convert at a 1:0.82 ratio. That means 10,000 partner-earned Asiana miles will become 8,200 SKYPASS miles.

The original expiration dates will remain in place after the conversion. Additionally, you’ll need to convert your entire Asiana mileage balance at once, and there’s no going back once those miles become SKYPASS miles.

Asiana Elite Members Will Receive Korean Air Status

Korean Air will introduce a new elite tier, Morning Calm Select Club, on October 28, 2026. The tier will sit above Morning Calm Club, offer SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits, and provide a closer match for certain Asiana elite members.

When the programs combine, Asiana elites will automatically receive a comparable Korean Air status while keeping their current status expiration dates.

Here’s how the status matches will work:

If you hold status with both airlines, you’ll receive the higher tier. Any Asiana coupons or vouchers you already have will remain valid through their original expiration dates.

More Ways To Redeem SKYPASS Miles

Korean Air is expanding its Cash and Miles option, which lets members use miles toward part of an eligible ticket booked through the airline’s website or app.

Members will soon be able to redeem as few as 100 miles toward up to 40% of a ticket’s price. Currently, the minimum is 500 miles, and members can cover up to 30% of the fare.

Korean Air also says it will add more ways to redeem smaller mileage balances, though it hasn’t shared specific details yet.
