Marriott is expanding its Autograph Collection brand significantly by opening a property in the Serengeti, Tanzania.

“Mapito Safari Camp will mark a defining moment for Autograph Collection as we introduce the brand’s first safari experience in one of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife destinations,” said Jerome Briet, Marriott’s chief development officer of Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

Here’s what you need to know about the hotel.

New Marriott Safari Camp Opens Later This Year

Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection will have just 16 tented suites, including a 2-bedroom villa. Each will boast an outdoor deck, a fire pit, and a retractable roof.

Amenities will include a spa, a fitness center, a swimming pool, and several dining options, including a restaurant inspired by traditional bonfires. Guests will also have access to daytime game drives, hot air balloon flights, bush dining, and engagement with a local tribe, according to the press release.

The camp will be positioned near the Fort Ikoma gate of the park, along the Great Migration route. This is where herds of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope pass between May and July each year.

Mapito Safari Camp is expected to open in the third quarter of 2025. However, Marriott has not listed an exact opening date, and it’s unclear how much the hotel will cost in cash or Marriott Bonvoy points. We’ll keep an eye out and will update this post when we know more, as the hotel isn’t listed on Marriott’s website yet.

Mapito Safari Camp will become Marriott’s first Autograph Collection safari camp when it opens.

Bottom Line:

Autograph Collection is part of Marriott’s Premium tier, which includes brands such as Le Meridien, Renaissance Hotels, and Tribute Portfolio. The brand is known for its collection of independent hotels, “hand-picked” for their originality.

Marriott’s Growing Safari Presence

Marriott clearly sees African safaris as travel hotspots and has big plans for areas such as the Serengeti and Masai Mara in Kenya.

The JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp and the JW Marriott Serengeti Lodge are set to open in 2026. The latter will have just 30 private suites, each with a private swimming pool, plus amenities like on-site dining.

However, if you don’t want to wait, Marriott already has a safari resort open in Kenya. The JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge has scattered award availability from 194,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night in November and December.

And while it doesn’t open until August, award bookings are available for the Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp, a new luxury tented safari camp in Kenya. However, rates here start at a whopping 312,000 points per night for dates next year!

Final Thoughts

Marriott’s expansion with an Autograph Collection property in the Serengeti is fantastic news for travelers, who will soon have another safari option bookable with points. We look forward to checking it out when it opens. For now, make sure to check out Marriott’s other safari resorts in Africa.
