Marriott, the world’s largest hotel chain, has more than 40 distinct brands under its umbrella, and not every one of them earns points and elite night credits at the same rate.

While that’s not changing, earnings rates at 1 brand are getting a meaningful boost — a pleasant surprise in this current era of seemingly endless program devaluations.

Here’s a look at all the details.

Earning Rates Improved at Marriott Executive Apartments

Marriott Executive Apartments is one of the chain’s more than 40 hotel brands. It’s designed primarily for long-term stays and provides apartment-style accommodations blended with full-service hotel services in major business centers across several countries worldwide.

Previously, the brand earned points and elite night credits at paltry rates: 2.5 Marriott Bonvoy points for every $1 spent and 1 elite night credit for every 3 nights stayed.

However, Marriott has changed earning rates for the Executive Apartments brand, so stays now earn 5 points per $1 spent and 1 elite night credit per night stayed. This brings earnings in line with the chain’s other extended-stay brands, including Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, Element by Westin, Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, and Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy.

Despite this positive change, Marriott still maintains 4 distinct earning buckets. The majority of its brands earn 10 points per $1 spent and 1 elite night credit per night stayed. The brands mentioned above earn 5 points per $1 spent and 1 elite night credit per night stayed, 4 brands earn 5 points per $1 spent and 1 elite night credit for every 2 nights stayed, and, finally, 1 brand earns 4 points per $1 spent and no elite night credits at all.

While it’s slightly disappointing that Executive Apartments wasn’t moved to the best-earning bucket, it’s an understandable move since it aligns with the chain’s other extended-stay brands and represents a meaningful improvement over its previously dismal earnings rates.

Final Thoughts

Stays at Marriott Executive Apartments now earn 5 points per $1 spent and 1 elite night credit for each night stayed. That’s a substantial improvement over the extended-stay brand’s previous earning structure. This is a positive development for Marriott Bonvoy members who no longer need to consider whether it’s worth booking this brand due to a poor earning structure.
