Marriott Now Lets You Store and View Gift Cards in Its Mobile App

Marriott has made an improvement in its mobile app that, while incremental, is a step in the right direction.

You can now store and view gift cards in the Marriott mobile app — and there’s a mechanism for redeeming them, though it’s not yet seamlessly integrated into the booking process.

Here’s what you need to know about this app update.

Marriott Gift Cards Now Viewable in Mobile App

Marriott has introduced the ability for users to store and view gift cards within its mobile app (iOS, Android).

You can now view gift cards — including their balances — when you navigate to the “Wallet” tab in the “Account” section of the app.

You can view your balance and transaction history, though you can’t redeem gift cards for stays or on-property purchases directly through the app at this point.

However, if you want to store the gift card in the app and still use it, let’s say when you’re checking out of a hotel, there’s a way to do so.

If you want to redeem a gift card stored in the app, you’ll be asked to verify your identity by entering a code sent to by email or text message. Once that process is complete, the gift card details will be revealed, and you can show it to an associate, who will then apply it in their system.

While there’s no direct mechanism to redeem gift cards in the app, this process lets you leave the physical cart at home and redeem from your phone, which is a step in the right direction. Plus, Marriott’s verbiage specifically uses “yet,” which implies the functionality should be improved in the future.

Within the Marriott Bonvoy app, click on the “Account” tab in the bottom right. Here, you’ll see “Gift Cards” in the middle of the page. Clicking on this will allow you to see existing gift cards or add a new one to your app.

As a reminder, Marriott gift cards can be used at any Marriott property at participating Marriott brands for stays, dining, spa, recreation, and more. However, the following brands do not accept Marriott gift cards: Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts, Design Hotels, Four Points Flex by Sheraton, Gaylord Hotels, Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, MGM Collection, Postcard Cabins, The Ritz-Carlton Destination Club, The Ritz-Carlton Residences, and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.
