Marriott, the world’s largest hotel chain, is bringing its high-end Tribute Portfolio brand to Brazil’s Amazon region by the end of 2024.

Here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming Amazonian resort!

Brazil’s First Tribute Portfolio Property

Marriott will rebrand the Tropical Hotel in Manaus, Brazil, into a Tribute Portfolio property. The hotel, which opened in the 1970s, has more than 600 guest rooms.

Marriott says the hotel will undergo a “phased reopening” near the end of 2024 and will feature standard guest rooms as well as suites.

Amenities will include several dining options, a wave pool, a gym, a spa, sports courts, meeting rooms, and a kids space. Future enhancements will include an orchidarium, a chapel, and a pier. The hotel is a short distance from Ponta Negra Beach.

This will become Brazil’s first Tribute Portfolio hotel, a brand under Marriott’s Premium umbrella, and will participate in the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program when it opens later this year.

“Tribute Portfolio, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of over 30 global leading hotel brands, is a collection of characterful, independent hotels drawn together by their passion for captivating design and their drive to create vibrant social scenes for guests and locals alike, and we are confident this property will be the perfect fit within the portfolio,” said Michael Leon, Senior Director of Development for Marriott International in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Bottom Line:

Manaus is considered the gateway to the Amazon River and the Amazonas at large. If you’re based in the U.S., you can fly nonstop to Manaus (MAO) via Fort Lauderdale (FLL) on Azul.

About Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio

If you’re unfamiliar with Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, it is a collection of independent, boutique hotels known for connecting travelers with their destinations.

Initially a Starwood Hotels and Resorts brand, Marriott acquired it in 2016 when the 2 companies merged. Today, there are over 100 Tribute Portfolio hotels in 25 countries.

Tribute Portfolio hotels are affordable, whether you pay cash or redeem Marriott Bonvoy points. This is especially true in markets like Asia and Europe.

For instance, you can score a room at the boutique Abbey Hotel Bath in the United Kingdom for as few as 20,000 points per night!

Final Thoughts

Marriott will open a hotel in Brazil’s Amazon region later this year, which is excellent news for nature lovers and award travelers alike who want to explore the region. This opening signals Marriott’s commitment to putting Tribute Portfolio hotels in the heart of local communities.
