American Airlines has good news to share for its hub at Miami International Airport (MIA).

The airport’s largest airline is planning some exciting lounge updates, including a new Flagship Lounge and the expansion of the existing Admiral’s Club space.

“We’re excited to expand and elevate the premium experience for our Flagship customers and also provide a more spacious and calming environment in our Admirals Club lounges,” said Heather Garboden, chief customer officer at American.

Here’s what we know so far.

American’s New and Improved Miami Lounges

American Airlines promises to double the amount of lounge space at Miami International (MIA) with significant updates and improvements to its Flagship Lounge and Admirals Club locations.

The first—and most exciting—is a brand-new Flagship Lounge. Flagship Lounges are American Airlines’ most premium lounge offering, and they are only available at its main hub airports, such as Chicago (ORD), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), New York (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX), and, most recently, Philadelphia (PHL).

The existing Flagship Lounge at gate D30 will be converted into more Admirals Club space. It remains to be seen whether that space will be combined with the existing Admirals Club at D30 or whether it will be its own space.

Miami is the foundation of the airline’s impressive network in Mexico, Central, and South America, and AA serves over 160 destinations nonstop from the airport. The lounge improvements will be welcome news for the millions of AA flyers who pass through the airport every year.

“Building on more than 3 decades of investment in greater Miami, this is yet another milestone that solidifies Miami as a world-class destination and American as its hometown airline,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, vice president of American’s operations at MIA.

American will release specific details regarding timelines and locations in due course.

Final Thoughts

American opened a Flagship Lounge in Miami in 2017, but we’re excited to learn that the airline is already planning a brand-new space. And, of course, more space dedicated to the Admirals Club is great news, as it should help with the overcrowding that continues to plague airline lounges across the country.
