Update: The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.
ITA Airways — the new Italian flag carrier — has relaunched the status match offer that was previously available at the end of 2021.
Since the end of last year, ITA has released more details surrounding its frequent flyer program, Volare, and the airline has officially become a member of the SkyTeam alliance.
If you didn’t take up the airline on its offer last time, the changes to the airline’s situation since the end of last year are certainly enough to make it worth considering this time around.
Here’s what you’ll need to do to match your status as well as a look at the benefits matching will afford you.
Matching Your Status to ITA’s Volare Is Easy
ITA’s status match — which is basically identical to the last match the airline offered — runs through April 15, 2022.
Status holders from no less than 15 airline programs (revised from an initial 24) are eligible for the status match:
- Alitalia Millemiglia
- American Airlines AAdvantage
- ANA Mileage Club
- British Airways Executive Club
- EL AA Matmid
- Emirates Skywards
- Iberia Iberia Plus
- Lufthansa Miles & More
- Qatar Airways Privilege Club
- Royal Jordanian Royal Club
- Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
- SWISS Air Miles & More
- TAP Air Portugal Miles & Go
- Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles
- United Airlines MileagePlus
Members of an additional 9 airline programs were initially eligible, but these programs are no longer included in the match:
- Aerolíneas Argentinas Aerolíneas Plus
- Air Europa Suma
- Air France/KLM FlyingBlue
- Czech Airlines OK Plus
- Delta Air Lines SkyMiles
- Korean Air SKYPASS
- Middle East Airlines Cedar Miles
- Saudia Alfursan
- TAROM Sky Team
First, you’ll need to sign up for the Volare program. This requires just a few minutes of your time to register your details.
Once you’re signed up, you’ll need to upload a copy of your current status with 1 of the eligible frequent flyer programs. You’ll receive an email by May 15, 2022, advising you if your status match has been authorized.
Once your status has been matched, you’ll have your status for a full calendar year starting on April 15, 2022.
Status Match Benefits
Now that ITA has joined SkyTeam, it opens up the possibility of receiving reciprocal benefits when flying with one of the many other SkyTeam members like Delta, Air France, and KLM.
“SkyPriority services are recognized only on flights operated by ITA Aiwarys; Club Plus Members will also soon be able to enjoy the benefits reserved for Elite Members on SkyTeam alliance flights,” a note on the airline’s website explains.
Bottom Line: SkyTeam is 1 of the 3 major global airline alliances. Check out our SkyTeam guide for the full list of participating airlines and how the alliance works.
We also now know a bit more about the benefits you can expect from the various tiers of the Volare program.
- Business class check-in, priority boarding, priority luggage, additional baggage allowance
- 10% points bonus per euro spent
- All benefits of Club Plus, as well as lounge access and access to fast-track airport security lanes
- 20% points bonus per euro spent
- All benefits of Club Plus and Club Premium
- 30% points bonus per euro spent
Status matches are a great opportunity to further leverage elite status gained by spending time and money with another airline.
There’s now even more reason to apply for ITA’s latest status match offer given that it should soon mean you’ll have access to reciprocal benefits with other SkyTeam airlines.
