Things are changing quickly at Spirit Airlines. The latest development is that its new premium economy seats are now officially flying — and you can book a seat for yourself.

“We’re adding extra-legroom Premium Seats to give more travelers the opportunity to enjoy a premium experience with extra space at a great value,” said Rana Ghosh, senior vice president and chief commercial officer at Spirit Airlines.

Here’s a look at the latest from the low-cost carrier.

You Can Now Book Spirit’s New Premium Economy Seats

We’ve reported on a number of changes coming to Spirit Airlines as it navigates its way back to profitability after emerging from bankruptcy.

Among these updates is the introduction of an all-new premium economy product across its fleet. Spirit is currently phasing out its “extra comfort” product, which features blocked middle seats in several rows, in favor of a new product that boasts 4 additional inches of legroom at each seat.

As of today, July 9, 115 aircraft have been retrofitted with the new seats, which are found in the first 7 rows of each aircraft. Each retrofitted aircraft has 42 of these extra-legroom seats, which means there are 4,830 premium economy seats available for purchase right now.

The airline says it took just 22 days to complete the 115 retrofits, which leads us to believe it will complete the rest of the project fairly quickly (the most recent update says the entire fleet will be retrofitted in 2026).

Final Thoughts

There are big changes happening at Spirit Airlines. The airline has emerged from bankruptcy and is executing its plan to return to profitability.

The installation of all-new premium economy seats seems like a win-win for both the airline and passengers. The former will be able to reap the rewards of the incremental revenue earned from selling the seats at an extra cost, and the latter will get to fly more comfortably while still likely saving money compared to similar trips on legacy carriers.
