If you’ve been eagerly anticipating the much-delayed Park Hyatt Johannesburg in South Africa, the wait is finally over. After initial plans to open in October 2024 and then April 2025, the hotel has officially welcomed guests starting today, July 1.

Here’s a sneak peek of Hyatt’s first ultra-luxe property in South Africa and how you can book it with points.

First Park Hyatt in South Africa

The Park Hyatt Johannesburg is a conversion of the Winston Hotel and opens as the smallest Park Hyatt in the world, with only 31 rooms and suites. All rooms have double sinks, an open-plan shower, Egyptian bedding, and a private lounge. Some rooms come equipped with private patios.

Amenities include a pool, room service, a spa, a fitness center, and meeting and event spaces. The hotel also features a dining room, a cigar lounge, and a terrace where you can enjoy high tea.

The opening of the Park Hyatt Johannesburg is part of Hyatt’s big expansion planned for Europe and Africa, which we reported on earlier this year. At the time, the hotel giant said 70 openings were coming to the EMEA region, including Park Hyatts in Johannesburg and London.

Other brands coming to the region include AluaSoul, Destination by Hyatt, and Thompson.

Booking the Park Hyatt Johannesburg

Park Hyatt Johannesburg is now open and welcoming guests. Best of all, there’s wide-open award availability through the end of the year and well into mid-2026. Most nights cost 25,000 points for the Category 6 World of Hyatt luxury hotel.

Cash rates here are pretty steep, with rooms starting above $500 nightly in July 2025. The high prices mean you’ll want to redeem World of Hyatt points.

Unfortunately, as a Category 6 property, the Park Hyatt Johannesburg is out of reach for using a Category 1-4 free night certificate. However, the hotel is affordable for a luxury property, considering other Park Hyatts worldwide fall into categories 7 or 8.

Rates for standard rooms start at 21,000 points per night (off-peak) and can reach 29,000 points per night on peak nights. World of Hyatt points are among the most valuable hotel points (we value them at 1.5 cents each) and are particularly useful in Africa and Asia.

Hot Tip:

In addition to earning points through Hyatt’s co-branded credit cards, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

The Park Hyatt Johannesburg is now open and welcoming guests as of July 1, 2025. After several delays, the highly anticipated property is finally accepting reservations.

With award nights starting at just 21,000 points and wide availability through the end of the calendar year, it’s poised to become one of Hyatt’s most sought-after properties in Africa.
