Hyatt has officially confirmed something for World of Hyatt fans to get excited about: a Park Hyatt is coming to Sicily.

The new Park Hyatt Taormina is expected to open in 2028, becoming just the second Park Hyatt in Italy after the Park Hyatt Milan. But before you start planning an award stay, there’s an important reality check: Hyatt is converting an existing property, and there’s still plenty of work ahead before it looks and feels like the kind of Park Hyatt guests know and love.

According to Hyatt, the Park Hyatt Taormina will feature 121 suites with private terraces, views of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, locally inspired dining venues, and a luxury spa when it opens in 2028.

While those details sound promising, the property isn’t starting from scratch. The future Park Hyatt will be a conversion of the former Capo dei Greci resort, which has since closed.

That’s important because Park Hyatt is Hyatt’s top luxury brand, and bringing an existing hotel up to those standards is no small task. Based on the former property’s appearance and amenities, a substantial renovation will be required before guests can experience the refined design, service, and overall luxury that travelers typically associate with the Park Hyatt name.

However, the property has a lot going for it, starting with an idyllic location. The resort sits along Sicily’s eastern coast with sweeping sea views and a dramatic backdrop that includes Mount Etna, one of Europe’s most famous volcanoes.

For World of Hyatt members, this could eventually become one of the most desirable redemption options in southern Europe.

While Hyatt hasn’t announced award pricing, Park Hyatt properties typically fall into the higher end of Hyatt’s award chart. If the hotel ultimately lands in Category 7 or Category 8, travelers could expect award nights to cost anywhere from 25,000 to 75,000 World of Hyatt points per night, based on Hyatt’s new 5-tier pricing model.

Of course, 2028 is still several years away, and plenty can change between now and opening day. For now, Hyatt has revealed only limited details about this exciting new project.
