Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is one of the hottest in the country. The airport is expanding its physical presence with major renovations and additions, and airlines are jockeying for position by adding new flights to new destinations across the country and internationally.

Now, airport documents show that two of the largest carriers at the airport, Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines, have big plans for new lounges.

Let’s take a look at all of the details.

New Lounges From Delta and Southwest Coming to Austin

View From the Wing has viewed the use and lease agreement for Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) that was signed at the end of last year and revealed that Delta and Southwest will construct new lounges for their flyers at the Texas airport.

Here’s what’s in store for both airlines.

Delta’s Lounge Plans in Austin

As Austin expands its airport’s physical footprint, Delta plans to capitalize on the expansion by taking more than 40,000 square feet for 2 new lounges, per the use and lease agreement.

What’s especially interesting, however, is that the total square footage will be divided between 2 lounge spaces. The existing 9,000-square-foot Delta Sky Club looks destined to become a brand-new Delta One Lounge, while about 30,000 square feet will be dedicated to a new Sky Club, which is rumored to feature a jet bridge that would allow for direct boarding from the lounge.

Currently, Delta doesn’t offer any long-haul service from Austin, but its partner KLM offers flights to Amsterdam (AMS), and Delta is expected to grow significantly at the airport in the coming years, and it stands to reason it would add long-haul flights to Europe and possibly even Asia, which would justify the construction of a new Delta One Lounge.

Southwest Bringing Its Lounge Concept to Texas’s Capital

The documents viewed by View From the Wing also show Southwest claiming about 40,000 square feet of space for what it’s calling a “crew lounge,” but as View From the Wing points out, that much space would be overkill for the carrier, with a projected 2,000 total employees based at the airport by the middle of 2027.

The carrier gauged passenger interest in branded lounges and confirmed that it is opening its first-ever passenger lounge in Honolulu (HNL), and that it has interest in opening one at Dallas Love Field (DAL). We can assume that Southwest’s plans in Austin are really for a passenger-focused lounge, especially since it’s set aside so much space.

Neither airline nor the airport has confirmed a timeline for any of these new lounge spaces.

Final Thoughts

Delta and Southwest passengers passing through Austin can expect big changes in the future, with both carriers planning all-new lounges at the airport.

This is a developing story. We will update it with the latest information as it becomes available.
