Royal Jordanian, the flag carrier of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, has a relatively small long-haul fleet composed (currently) of just Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners.

Soon, however, the airline will begin receiving brand-new planes of the larger 787-9 variant, which will be equipped with an entirely new business class product. And it looks like that new aircraft will bring these planes to the U.S. soon.

Royal Jordanian’s New Business Class Coming to the U.S.

With its fleet of Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, Royal Jordanian can serve several destinations across the globe, including cities in Asia and North America. However, the fleet is outdated on the inside, especially with its uncompetitive 2-2-2 configuration in business class.

It looks like that’s beginning to change, however. The carrier is slated to start receiving its new 797-9s in the coming months, and recent schedule updates give us clues as to where these new jets will be flying.

As reported by AeroRoutes, the new 787-9 will begin flying to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) from Royal Jordanian’s hub in Amman (AMM) 1 day per week — on Thursdays — as of March 26, 2026.

The flight operates according to the following schedule:

  • Depart Amman (AMM) at 10:55 a.m. and arrive in Chicago (ORD) at 4:05 p.m.
  • Depart Chicago (ORD) at 7:50 p.m. and arrive in Amman (AMM) at 3:40 p.m. (+1)

The aircraft is also slated to operate routes to Bangkok (BKK), Istanbul (IST), and Paris (CDG).

Searching on Royal Jordanian’s site confirms that the aircraft is operating the Thursday Chicago frequency from March 26, and if you simulate a booking, you can access the aircraft’s seat map, which confirms a change from the carrier’s current 2-2-2 configuration.

While we don’t know any specifics about Royal Jordanian’s new business class product, and the airline is being tight-lipped about details and pictures, the configuration displayed in the seat map is encouraging news. It shows a much more modern 1-2-1 arrangement, which should at least make the airline competitive with other carriers.

Of course, all of this is subject to change. We could see the -9 pulled from the Chicago route altogether — or see it operate even more frequencies on the route. Regardless, it’s exciting that Royal Jordanian is looking at a North American destination as a target for its latest and greatest aircraft.

Hot Tip:

Final Thoughts

If current scheduling holds, Chicago is set to be the lucky recipient of Royal Jordanian’s brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which features a modern and competitive 1-2-1 configuration in business class.

It will be a welcome development for both Chicago-based travelers and Oneworld flyers across the country who connect in Chicago on their way to Jordan or beyond. Here’s hoping we see the -9 proliferate across more of the Jordanian carrier’s North American network as it takes delivery of more planes into its fleet.
