Update:

The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

Southwest Airlines is offering discounts of up to 25% if you book your flight soon.

The booking window for the sale is short: You need to book by December 19, 2024. You can travel in the first few months of 2025 with this offer.

Let’s run through everything you need to know about Southwest’s latest sale.

Southwest Sale: Flights up to 25% Off

Act fast to take advantage of this sale, because you need to book by December 19. The promo code for this offer is POINTS25.

You can get up to 25% off flights when using Rapid Rewards points, and the eligible travel dates vary by destination. Within the continental U.S. and flights within Hawaii, you can fly between January 7 and March 5, 2025. For flights to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or international destinations, flights continue through May 22, 2025.

There are blackout dates, unfortunately. Those are February 13, 14, and 17, 2025, within the continental U.S. and February 13-16 plus March 7-April 19 for Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and international destinations. Coming back to the continental U.S. from those locations, the blackout dates are February 21-23 and March 14-April 27, 2025.

The discounts apply to Wanna Get Away and Wanna Get Away Plus fares booked directly with Southwest.

You can dig around for some cheap flights to Hawaii through this sale. For instance, we found fares from Los Angeles (LAX) to Honolulu (HNL) in February 2025 for 6,805 points one-way.

There’s quite a bit of fine print you’ll want to keep in mind:

This promotion applies when booking with Southwest Rapid Rewards points. If your travel plans are flexible, you can use the Southwest Low Fare Calendar to find the cheapest dates to your destination.

All award travel has mandatory government taxes. By using one of Southwest’s co-branded credit cards to pay for the taxes and fees, you could also earn 2x to 4x Rapid Rewards points spent on your Southwest purchases. These cards also come with other useful perks like anniversary bonus points every cardmember year, EarlyBird Check-In certificates, and more.

Hot Tip:

Southwest has a flexible change and cancellation policy. Since this sale doesn’t apply to existing bookings, if you find your same flight is now available at a cheaper price, you might book it and then cancel your existing reservation. Here’s how to change or cancel a Southwest flight.

Final Thoughts

Southwest is having a flash sale, offering up to 25% off flights to numerous destinations across its network when using points to pay for your flight. If you’re interested, you’ll need to book soon, as this offer only runs through December 19. And remember to use the promo code POINTS25 when booking.
