Southwest Airlines and Amazon Prime Day — 2 sources of discounts that go together like peas and carrots. Right now, you can save up to 30% on base fares with Southwest when you book by today, July 17, at 11:59 p.m. PT, meaning you’ll need to move pretty quickly.

Let’s run through everything you need to know about Southwest’s latest sale.

Southwest Sale: Save Up to 30% During Amazon Prime Day

Act fast to take advantage of this sale because it’s only valid for flights booked by July 17, 2024. You can save up to 30% using the code “PRIME” for travel between August 6 and December 18 in the continental U.S. Travel to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and international destinations has a different travel period: August 13 to December 17, 2024. However, the booking dates are the same.

“Amazon’s Prime Day Event draws consumers looking for travel deals and inspiration, and we’re inviting Prime Day members to enjoy Southwest’s service with a discount on our already low fares as a way to win more customers and drive bookings,” said Jennifer Bridie, Vice President Marketing Communications & Strategy at Southwest Airlines. Moreover, travelers who use their Southwest Rapid Rewards credit cards from Chase for Amazon.com purchases from July 16 through July 17 earn points that count toward Companion Pass.

There’s quite a bit of fine print you’ll want to keep in mind:

  • Discounts apply to Wanna Get Away and Wanna Get Away Plus fares only.
  • The maximum discount is 30%, though discounts vary.
  • Seats, days, and markets are limited.
  • The discount applies before adding government taxes and fees.
  • Blackout dates for travel in the continental U.S.: September 2, October 14, November 22 to 27, and November 29 to December 2.
  • Blackout dates going to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and international travel: August 29 to September 3 and November 21 to November 25.
  • Blackout dates from Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and international travel: August 29 to September 3 and November 29 to December 3.
  • Additional limitations may apply.
  • Not valid for flights departing John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, California.

To book, you can head over to Southwest’s website to choose your flight and use promo code PRIME to save up to 30% — maybe. As you’ll see in this sample search, the discount amount varies widely.

The best part of this deal is that it works with cash or Southwest Rapid Rewards points.

By using one of Southwest’s co-branded credit cards to book your flights, you could also earn 2x to 4x Rapid Rewards points spent on your Southwest purchases. These cards also come with other useful perks like anniversary bonus points every cardmember year, EarlyBird Check-In certificates, and more.

Hot Tip:

Southwest has a flexible change and cancellation policy. Since this sale doesn’t apply to existing bookings, if you find your same flight is now available at a cheaper price, you might book it and then cancel your existing reservation. Here’s how to change or cancel a Southwest flight.

Final Thoughts

Southwest is having a flash sale in conjunction with Amazon Prime Day, offering up to a 30% discount on flights. Wherever you’re headed, remember to book by tonight to take advantage of these deals—and remember to use the promo code PRIME.
