Southwest is increasing its presence in Kansas City, Missouri with new service to Long Beach, California (LGB). The inaugural flight will launch on March 9, 2023, in line with the brand-new terminal opening at Kansas City International Airport (MCI).
Here’s everything we know about Southwest’s newest route.
Southwest Connects Kansas City With Long Beach
Southwest’s new route from Kansas City to Long Beach will be the only nonstop service between the city pair.
The year-round service brings Southwest’s number of nonstop routes to/ from Long Beach to 18 and nonstop routes to/from Kansas City to 26.
When the service takes flight on March 9, 2023, it will operate daily with the following schedule:
Departs Kansas City (MCI) 11:05 a.m. CT — Arrives Long Beach (LGB) 12:40 p.m. PT
Departs Long Beach (LGB) 1:20 p.m. PT — Arrives Kansas City (MCI) 6:20 p.m. CT
“Nonstop flights to and from Kansas City are a great addition to a growing list of destinations offered at our award-winning Long Beach Airport and through our partners at Southwest Airlines,” said Rex Richardson, Long Beach Mayor. “If you want one of the best travel experiences anywhere in the country, Long Beach brings it. We look forward to welcoming travelers from Missouri.”
The lowest fare we’re seeing for a one-way flight between the two cities is around $149. Note that even Southwest’s lowest fares even include checked bags — a rarity for the low-cost airline business model.
Hot Tip: If you consider $149 to be not-so-low-cost, check out our guide on the many ways you can earn Southwest Rapid Rewards Points so you can fly Southwest for even less.
Passengers on the route will fly one of Southwest’s 771-strong Boeing 737 family aircraft — the only aircraft it has in its fleet.
