Southwest has teamed up with yet another foreign carrier — Singapore Airlines — to help its passengers more easily connect to the carrier’s robust network in Southeast Asia and beyond.

“Singapore Airlines becomes the eighth carrier in our partnership portfolio, exemplified by its quality and reach. These carriers are facilitating access to our network for a growing global audience drawn to our improved onboard product and increasingly choosing to fly with us,” said Andrew Watterson, chief operating officer at Southwest. “Journeys that pair Southwest and Singapore Airlines not only connect new geographies but also create consistent high-quality customer experiences.”

Let’s take a look at what this new partnership means for you.

Southwest Signs Interline Agreement With Singapore Airlines

Southwest Airlines has inked a new interline agreement with Singapore Airlines, which becomes the latest foreign carrier in Southwest’s steadily expanding stable of international partners.

Being an interline agreement, there are no opportunities for reciprocal loyalty benefits or earning/redeeming miles. This partnership allows travelers to leverage both carriers’ networks by booking itineraries that include both carriers on a single ticket and checking bags to their final destinations.

Southwest and Singapore Airlines overlap at 3 U.S. airports: Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), and Seattle (SEA). U.S.-based travelers can book trips that stop at any of these airports and connect to a Singapore Airlines flight to reach Singapore or any of the 130+ destinations in 35 countries and territories the airline serves.

Conversely, flyers based in Asia can fly Singapore Airlines, enter the U.S. at any of these 3 gateways, and continue onward to almost 120 airports Southwest serves nonstop from these cities.

Singapore Airlines is the eighth airline in Southwest’s so-called “partnership portfolio,” which also includes China Airlines, Condor Airlines, EVA Air, Icelandair, Philippine Airlines, and Turkish Airlines.

At this point, these agreements don’t extend beyond interline partnerships, so there are no implications for loyalty or mileage earning or redemption. However, Southwest is full-steam ahead with expanding its roster of foreign partners, so it stands to reason that deeper partnerships could come soon with at least some of these carriers.

Final Thoughts

Southwest has expanded its portfolio of foreign partners with the addition of Singapore Airlines. This should provide passengers of both airlines with more seamless options for getting between the U.S. and Southeast Asia and beyond. We look forward to seeing which carrier(s) Southwest will team up with next!
