Southwest Airlines has announced that it’s partnered with telecom giant T-Mobile to provide fast and free Wi-Fi to all Rapid Rewards members, and the rollout begins next month.

“We are focused on making sure our customers have a great experience from the time they book a flight to the time they reach their destination,” said Tony Roach, executive vice president, chief customer and brand officer at Southwest Airlines. “We’re pleased to partner with T-Mobile to bring free Wi-Fi to all Rapid Rewards Members. This is part of our ongoing commitment to elevate the cabin experience, with free WiFi being just one of the many enhancements customers will see in the months ahead.”

Here’s everything you need to know!

Free T-Mobile Wi-Fi Coming Soon to Southwest Flights

In their first-ever collaboration, Southwest Airlines and T-Mobile are bringing free, unlimited Wi-Fi to all Rapid Rewards members. This service will allow travelers to surf, stream, work, and more for no additional cost on all Southwest flights.

The airline recently indicated that it was toying with the idea of free Wi-Fi for its Rapid Rewards members and even ran a large-scale test that didn’t exactly wow one of the Upgraded Points team members. However, the airline said that it received overwhelmingly positive feedback from that trial run, so it decided to push the initiative forward.

The new T-Mobile-powered free Wi-Fi will be available starting October 24, 2025. You can have any wireless provider, but you need to have a Rapid Rewards account. If you aren’t already a member, you can sign up here for free.

Southwest’s move is the latest in a flurry of Wi-Fi-related news from the commercial aviation industry this year. Delta, the first-mover on free inflight Wi-Fi, continues to roll out the offering across its fleet; United has partnered with SpaceX’s Starlink to install satellite Wi-Fi across the majority of its fleet; American Airlines announced it would bring free Wi-Fi to AAdvantage members via a partnership with AT&T starting in 2026; and, just hours ago, JetBlue shared it would install next-generation Project Kuiper Wi-Fi on its planes beginning in 2027.

However, semi-private carrier JSX has had free Starlink for all passengers as a staple of its flights for several years already.

It seems all but inevitable that within a few years, flyers will be able to expect free Wi-Fi on the vast majority of flights within the U.S.

Final Thoughts

Starting at the end of next month, Southwest Rapid Rewards members will get to enjoy free Wi-Fi provided by T-Mobile. This is an exciting development for Southwest flyers, who have been searching for some good news lately.
