Spirit Airlines is upping its ante out of Newark this summer.

The ultra-low-cost airline has announced 4 new routes from Newark (EWR) to Indianapolis (IND), Los Angeles (LAX), Oakland (OAK), and Pittsburgh (PIT).

“We know people are eager to travel this summer, and we’re happy to add new, high-value options for guests looking to visit friends and family in northern New Jersey or those seeking affordable options to travel from the Garden State across the country,” said John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines.

The announcement makes Newark the second major U.S. city in the space of a couple of weeks to be the center of Spirit’s network expansion after plans were recently unveiled for 5 new nonstop services from Las Vegas (LAS).

Here’s what you need to know about the new routes.

Newark (EWR) Gets 4 New Nonstop Spirit Services

Each of Spirit’s new routes from Newark will welcome daily service.

The most exciting route of the 4 is the daily service to Oakland (OAK) as Spirit will be the only airline to operate nonstop service between these New Jersey and Californian airports.

As for Indianapolis (IND) and Pittsburgh (PIT), United already operates service between both cities and Newark (EWR). Spirit’s entrance into the market means the arrival of an ultra-low-cost option for travelers between the city pairs but could also herald a lowering of fares by United in response to the competition.

Spirit will join Alaska, JetBlue, and United Airlines as the fourth airline to operate nonstop service on the highly competitive route between Newark (EWR) and Los Angeles (LAX).

The start date and frequency for each of the new routes is as follows:

Louisville Service for Kentucky Derby

As an added bonus, Spirit is putting on 2 round-trip services from Newark (EWR) to Louisville (SDF) for the Kentucky Derby. Flights will operate on May 5 and 8, 2022.

If you were considering checking out the Derby, flights are available to book now and are coming in at around 50% cheaper than the nonstop services with United on the same dates.

Final Thoughts

Spirit is adding nonstop services between Newark (EWR) and 4 U.S. cities this summer.

This means that those living in and around Indianapolis (IND), Los Angeles (LAX), Newark (EWR), Oakland (OAK), and Pittsburgh (PIT) will have even more opportunities to make the most of the airline’s ultra-low fares.
