Spirit Airlines is expanding connectivity in its home state by adding Key West (EYW) as a new destination.

Its first route to Key West from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) will start on November 6, 2025.

“Our new service offers a convenient and affordable alternative to driving and gives our guests in the Florida Keys a new way to coast through South Florida in style,” said John Kirby, vice president of network planning at Spirit.

Here are the details.

Spirit Adds 8th Airport In Florida

Ultra-low-cost Spirit Airlines is adding Key West as its 8th Florida airport this November.

Initially, the route will operate just 4x weekly on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. As of December 18, 2025, this will ramp up to a daily service.

When the flight launches on November 6, Spirit’s new route will be the only nonstop flight between Fort Lauderdale and Key West.

The timings of the flights are scheduled as follows:

Depart Fort Lauderdale (FLL) at 12:40 p.m. and arrive in Key West (EYW) at 1:30 p.m.
Depart Key West (EYW) at 2:25 p.m. and arrive in Fort Lauderdale (FLL) at 3:15 p.m.

The position of Fort Lauderdale Airport as Spirit’s main hub means passengers from dozens of locations across the U.S. will have the option of connecting easily to this new service to the Florida Keys.

“Spirit Airlines entering the Key West market this November is fantastic news for our passengers near and far,” said Richard Strickland, executive director of airports at Key West International Airport.

For a limited time only, Spirit is offering introductory one-way fares on the route starting at $79. That’s higher than the fares you’ll find on many of the airline’s longer routes. Spirit is clearly making the most of having a monopoly on the route to charge a premium.

The route will be operated by Spirit’s fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft.

Spirit might be an ultra-low-cost airline, but you can soften the budget edge by picking one of its recently unveiled extra-legroom premium economy seats that feature on some of its planes. All Spirit Airlines aircraft are expected to have the new seats installed by the end of 2026.

Final Thoughts

Spirit’s new route from Fort Lauderdale to Key West is one of the shortest in its network. The service offers Floridians the convenience of a short flight of less than an hour, rather than hopping in the car for a several-hour drive — and you get to avoid the ever-present traffic jams on the Overseas Highway.
