Spirit Airlines will soon fly to Salt Lake City (SLC) for the first time from 3 of its busiest hubs: Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), and Orlando (MCO).
The flights will benefit Spirit frequent flyers and those living in Utah looking for low-cost fares to popular domestic vacation spots.
“We listen to our guests, and they told us they wanted more exciting Western destinations to experience the great outdoors,” said John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit.
The new routes will launch in time for the summer vacation season from May 26, 2022.
Salt Lake City Welcomes Spirit Airlines
Spirit’s arrival at Salt Lake City International (SLC) will mark the first time the airline operates flights to and from the state of Utah.
“We are thrilled to welcome Spirit Airlines to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC),” said Bill Wyatt, Executive Director at Salt Lake City Department of Airports.
However, Salt Lake City is already well-served by most American airlines to destinations spanning the entire country, including each of Spirit’s new destinations from the city.
While competition is welcome for passengers as it drives down the cost of fares, too much competition can mean there’s not enough demand to fill all of the airlines’ seats.
Let’s take a look at the new routes in more detail.
Twice Daily to Las Vegas (LAS)
Spirit will be coming up against Frontier, Southwest, and Delta, all of which already operate nonstop flights between the 2 cities.
Flights will operate with the following schedule:
Depart Salt Lake City (SLC) 4:25 p.m. — Arrive Las Vegas (LAS) 4:55 p.m.
Depart Las Vegas (LAS) 5:39 p.m. — Arrive Salt Lake City (SLC) 8:04 p.m.
Depart Salt Lake City (SLC) 5:43 p.m. — Arrive Las Vegas (LAS) 6:13 p.m.
Depart Las Vegas (LAS) 7:40 a.m. — Arrive Salt Lake City (SLC) 10:05 a.m.
Once Daily to Los Angeles (LAX)
Spirit will face the most competition on this new route as Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, and United already operate nonstop flights between the 2 cities.
Its schedule is as follows:
Depart Salt Lake City (SLC) 10:55 a.m. — Arrive Los Angeles (LAX) 11:55 a.m.
Depart Los Angeles (LAX) 12:45 p.m. — Arrive Salt Lake City (SLC) 3:35 p.m.
Once Daily to Orlando (MCO)
The route between Salt Lake City and Orlando — and the longest of the 3 — is already operated by Delta and JetBlue.
The schedule is as follows:
Depart Salt Lake City (SLC) 7 a.m. — Arrival Orlando (MCO) 1:21 p.m.
Depart Orlando (MC) 2:11 p.m. — Arrival Salt Lake City (SLC) 4:49 p.m.
