Spirit Airlines upended its business model after emerging from bankruptcy, and it’s now offering a premium economy product.

Those seats are flying, and the airline wants you to try them out. To encourage you to book premium economy, Spirit will give you 1,500 bonus Free Spirit points. You’ll need to book within the next month and fly by the end of the year to take advantage of this offer.

Let’s take a look at what this promotion offers and whether it’s worth it.

Spirit Airlines’ Premium Economy Offering

Spirit Airlines has made some big changes over the past year, changing its business model and overhauling its fare types. Among other improvements at Spirit for 2025, you’ll now find a premium economy class.

These seats offer 4 extra inches of legroom, which the airline installed after refreshing its Go Comfy product. There are 42 premium economy seats spread across each aircraft’s first 7 rows.

The premium economy bundle also comes with other perks, such as being able to change or cancel your reservation, 25% off inflight snacks and drinks, a carry-on bag, and priority boarding.

Get Bonus Points for Flying in Premium Economy

Free Spirit members can earn 750 bonus points on a one-way trip in premium economy. Round-trip bookings will earn 1,500 bonus points.

To qualify, you need to book by September 8 and fly by December 31, 2025. Only bookings made directly at spirit.com or an authorized Spirit ticketing station will qualify.

Is It Worth It?

Let’s check out the cost difference between Spirit’s Value fares — the cheapest option — and premium economy to answer this question.

On the short flight between John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, California, and Las Vegas (LAS), premium economy is the middle price of the 3 options. On either of the daily flights on this route, premium economy costs $30 more than the cheapest option.

Take into account that you’ll get more legroom and a carry-on bag with premium economy, which can cost $25 to $30 on this route when added in advance.

We value Free Spirit points at 1.1 cents each. That makes 750 points worth $8.25, while 1,500 points are worth $16.50.

You’re paying $30 more for a one-way trip while earning $8.25 in rewards. That’s definitely not worth it if you’re doing it just for the points. However, this is a nice incentive if you need to bring a carry-on bag or want the other perks associated with the premium economy bundle.

Final Thoughts

If you book by September 8 and fly by December 31, you can earn bonus points for flying in Spirit Airlines’ new premium economy. You’ll earn 750 points on a one-way or 1,500 points on a round-trip booking.

Booking premium economy just for the points won’t make sense financially, but it’s a nice incentive if you were thinking about booking this elevated fare bundle.
