Update:

On May 2, 2026, Spirit Airlines ceased operations. Applications for the Free Spirit Debit Card are no longer available.

If you’ve ever wished your debit card could help you earn rewards for free flights, Spirit Airlines’ upcoming Free Spirit debit card might catch your attention — and we’re finally getting a clearer look at how it will work.

The card isn’t open for applications just yet, but it now has a landing page — and with that comes a much better idea of what Spirit flyers can expect.

What To Know About the Free Spirit Debit Card

Spirit Airlines has seen its fair share of major changes over the past year, from rolling out extra-legroom seating options to adding more bundled perks, and now another big change is coming with the launch of its first-ever debit card.

The new Free Spirit debit card will carry a $6.99 monthly fee and will be issued by Cross River Bank. While that fee may raise some eyebrows, Spirit is clearly positioning this card as a way for loyal flyers to earn points and unlock travel perks — even if they don’t want a Spirit co-branded credit card.

Here’s how the earning structure looks on the new debit card:

  • 200-point welcome offer
  • 200 bonus Spirit points each month for the first 12 months
  • 1 point per $2 spent on the card
  • 1 point per $1 on eligible purchases (Spirit hasn’t clarified which purchases qualify yet)
  • Up to 4,000 points per month based on your average account balance (full details haven’t been released)

On the perks side, cardholders can expect:

  • Group 2 priority boarding on Spirit flights
  • Priority check-in
  • Access to points pooling

That last benefit is especially notable, since Spirit’s points-pooling feature allows families and friends to combine rewards, making it easier to redeem for flights faster.

Because this is a debit card (not a credit card), it could appeal to travelers who prefer to avoid credit products but still want a way to earn Free Spirit points on everyday spending.

Hot Tip:

If you’re already flying Spirit a few times a year, perks like Group 2 boarding and priority check-in could add real value — especially on busier routes where overhead bin space fills up quickly.

Final Thoughts

Spirit’s upcoming Free Spirit debit card won’t be for everyone. The earning rates aren’t groundbreaking, and some key details — such as which purchases earn at the higher rate and how balance-based points work — remain unclear.

That said, for frequent Spirit flyers who value early boarding, priority check-in, and an easy way to build points without opening another credit card, this could be an interesting option once applications officially open.

We’ll be watching closely for the full launch and will update this article with additional details.
