Spirit has announced a new route from upstate New York to one of Florida’s most popular destinations.
Here’s what you need to know about the new route!
Spirit Launches Only Daily Nonstop Route Between ROC and MCO
Spirit Airlines on October 18, 2022, began operating a nonstop route between Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) and Orlando International Airport (MCO).
The new route gives travelers from the upstate New York region a 1-stop connection to several destinations in the Caribbean and Central and South America, such as Bogotá (BOG), Cancún (CUN), and San Juan (SJU), as Orlando is one of Spirit’s largest airport operations.
The service will operate once daily. The routes appear to operate at different times throughout the end of 2022, with some flights from ROC taking off in the early morning and others departing later in the morning.
This is the only daily, nonstop route between ROC and MCO. Another low-cost airline, Frontier, flies between the 2 cities, but only a few days a week. Other full-service carriers, such as Delta and United, require stops each way.
“Convenience is key to a great travel experience, and we’re making it easy for our Rochester Guests to spend more time soaking up the sun at Orlando’s theme parks and nearby attractions,” said John Kirby, Spirit’s Vice President of Network Planning, in a statement.
In a statement, Monroe County executive Adam Bello said Orlando was the number 1 destination for Rochester-area travelers.
“As the only upstate New York airport currently offering air service with Spirit, we’re grateful for their commitment and investment in our community and the ROC Airport,” Bello said.
Spirit’s Network Expansion
Spirit has been on a roll in recent months, adding new routes and relaunching others across its vast network across the U.S. and Latin America.
Spirit Airlines has launched a nonstop daily flight from Rochester to Orlando. It’s a big move from Spirit, connecting upstate New York to one of Spirit’s busiest hubs and allowing passengers to connect to other domestic and international destinations!
