TAP Air Portugal has launched a limited-time promotion, offering a 30% discount on award bookings. The discount applies to both economy and business class redemptions made by February 24 for travel by March 31, 2025.

Miles&Go, TAP’s loyalty program, can offer some interesting redemptions for U.S.-based flyers. The airline has a relatively large network in Europe and the Americas, where it serves several U.S. cities. Looking at award seats on its flights could be worth your while.

Let’s look at what this promotion includes.

Fly to Portugal for 40,600 Miles Round-Trip Next Year

TAP advertises sale prices on its site starting at 40,600 miles round-trip between the U.S. and Europe or North Africa. Normally, these awards would cost 58,000 miles per person. Business class normally costs 100,000 miles each way, so you could book these seats for 70,000 miles one-way or 140,000 miles per person round-trip during the award sale.

Booking must be completed by February 24; travel must be between February 17 and March 31, 2025, with a blackout period of March 1-9, 2025 on flights to and from Venice (but no blackout dates with other destinations).

It’s also possible to book one-way tickets with the 30% award discount.

The discount is valid only on flights operated by TAP and its regional subsidiary, TAP Express. It cannot be applied to TAP’s Star Alliance partners, such as United Airlines and Air Canada.

In North America, TAP serves 11 airports from Lisbon and Porto (OPO): Boston (BOS)Chicago (ORD)Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK)Newark (EWR),  San Francisco (SFO), Washington, D.C. (IAD), Cancun (CUN), Toronto (YYZ), and Montreal (YUL).

Hot Tip:

If you’re based in the U.S. and fly TAP only occasionally, keep in mind that the airline is a member of Star Alliance, like United Airlines, and another big player in North America, Air Canada. You can earn (and spend) United and Air Canada miles on its flights, rather than TAP’s own Miles&Go miles.

How To Earn TAP Miles&Go Miles

There are several ways for people based in the U.S. to earn TAP’s Miles&Go miles besides actual flying. For example, you can transfer points from Bilt Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy, or Capital One miles.

The airline also issues a co-branded credit card in the U.S., the TAP Miles&Go American Express® Card from Cardless.

The TAP Miles&Go Amex card has an annual fee, but at $79 per year, it‘s at the lower end of the scale for airline co-branded cards. Cardholders receive 3x miles per $1 spent on TAP Air Portugal purchases, 2x miles on ride-share services, hotels, and car rentals, and 1x miles on all other purchases.

Final Thoughts

Portugal is a relatively short flight from the U.S. East Coast and is a very popular vacation and remote-work destination. Getting there on points can be very attractive, and this promotion from Portuguese flag carrier TAP could be interesting.

Play around with dates and destinations on the TAP site before committing to a points transfer to Miles&Go, as points transfers generally can’t be reversed. That means you should be certain award flights that work for you are available before making a transfer.
