Tuscaloosa, Alabama is known across the country as being home to the University of Alabama — and its formidable football team.

‘Bama fans have had a lot to celebrate in recent years — since the start of the 21st century alone, the Crimson Tide have won the national championship a whopping 6 times.

And now, Alabama fans, students, parents, and anyone who visits Tuscaloosa have even more to celebrate: the opening of the city’s first luxury boutique hotel: The Alamite, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. What’s more, the hotel is partially owned by Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban, arguably the greatest college football coach of all time.

“My wife, Terry, and I are excited to be a part of the ownership group for The Alamite,” said Nick Saban. “Not only will this investment benefit our local economy, but it also represents a new standard for design and comfort in downtown Tuscaloosa.”

Here’s what you need to know about this exciting development.

The Alamite Is Now Open for Guests

Opened on September 15, 2022, The Alamite, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel became the first “upscale boutique” hotel in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Found in the center of downtown Tuscaloosa, the hotel is just a few blocks from the University of Alabama’s campus, Bryant-Denny Stadium, and the forthcoming Saban Center, and is set among many of the area’s best restaurants, bars, and shopping.

The Alamite strives to be a “world-class boutique hotel with a regional soul” by respecting its Southern roots but with an eye to the larger world.

“From architecture to design and service, The Alamite is an experience infused with authentic touches inspired by the unique character, culture, heritage, and people of our city,” said Karen Steiger, General Manager of The Alamite Tuscaloosa. “We are excited to welcome visitors and locals alike to experience this new hotel, which builds on local traditions while maintaining a forward-looking perspective in Tuscaloosa.”

The new property has 112 guest rooms, a fitness center, plenty of meeting space, and 2 restaurants and bars:

  • Forte: Cuts & Cocktails, now open, is helmed by Chef Jacob Stull, emphasizes meat with a “brasserie-meets-steakhouse menu,” and has a full bar and extensive wine list.
  • Roll Call Rooftop Bar, opening in mid-October, will serve up sushi, sliders, pizzas, and other shareable dishes in an “inviting atmosphere and ambiance.” It features an indoor/outdoor concept that’s sure to be a hit on balmy football Saturdays in Tuscaloosa.

Final Thoughts

Football is big business in Tuscaloosa, and now it’s found its way into the local hospitality industry with Coach Nick Saban owning a stake in the brand-new hotel The Alamite.

Besides its connection to the Alabama football universe, The Alamite looks like it has the chops to stand on its own as a hotel, with plenty of amenities, food and beverage options, design, and more to appeal to many more people than just football fans and visiting parents.
