A new points hotel is coming to Rome just in time for the busy summer 2026 travel season. Thompson Rome is the swanky brand’s debut in the Eternal City, and it’s now taking reservations.

Here’s what you need to know.

Thompson Hotels Opening Rome Outpost in 2026

Thompson Rome will offer 69 guest rooms and suites. Amenities include 3 restaurants and bars — including a rooftop cocktail bar — a fitness center, meeting facilities, laundry services, and pet-friendly accommodations

The hotel is located a short walk from all Rome has to offer, including Piazza Navona, the Colosseum, and Fontana di Trevi, as well as numerous restaurants, bars, and shops.

Thompson Rome will be a welcome addition for World of Hyatt loyalists, given the brand’s small footprint in the city. Currently, Hyatt has just 1 hotel in Rome, The Tribune, a JdV by Hyatt property. Thompson Rome will become Hyatt’s seventh hotel in Italy, joining properties in Venice, Milan, Florence, and Sardinia.

If you’re not familiar with the brand, Thompson Hotels are known for their signature design and architecture. These hotels focus primarily on an art deco style with mid-century furnishings; you’ll often see dark interiors with leather furnishings and gold-clad fixtures.

There are currently 18 Thompson Hotels open worldwide, and you’ll find the brand in exciting destinations like New York, Washington, D.C., and Madrid.

Booking Thompson Rome

Thompson Rome will officially open for guests on June 1, 2026; however, you can book stays now. The hotel will participate in the World of Hyatt program, meaning you’ll be able to earn and redeem Hyatt points here.

Cash rates range from $700 to $1,300 per night, depending on the dates.

Thompson Rome is among the most expensive hotels in the World of Hyatt portfolio when redeeming points. The hotel is a Category 8 — Hyatt’s highest tier — and rates cost 35,000 points during off-peak nights, 40,000 points during standard nights, and 45,000 points during peak nights.

That’s an important distinction, indicating that Hyatt views the Thompson Rome as one of its flagship properties. There are just 33 Category 8 hotels, with 4 of them in Italy.

Depending on your travel dates, you’ll likely get over 2 cents per point using Hyatt points at this property — better than our average valuation of Hyatt points at 1.5 cents each. That means this is a good time to use points.

Hot Tip:

Running low on Hyatt points? You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio, or use one of the best credit cards for Hyatt loyalists to earn more from spending.

Final Thoughts

Thompson Rome officially opens for guests in June 2026. This is a pretty exciting opening, particularly for Hyatt loyalists, as it offers another points option in Rome — and a high-scale one at that. To stay here, you’ll need to fork over a significant number of points (or cash), but it’s worth it for being so close to all the action.
