Summer travel season is just around the corner, and if you’ve got a high school senior, college grad, or twenty-something in your life who hasn’t yet pulled the trigger on TSA PreCheck, the timing just got a lot better.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has rolled out a limited-time “$20 Take Off” promotion aimed squarely at younger travelers.

Here’s the rundown on the discount, plus a few other ways to snag TSA PreCheck without paying full price.

TSA PreCheck ‘$20 Take Off’ Promotion Details

From May 1 through May 31, 2026, new applicants aged 30 or younger can take $20 off their first 5-year TSA PreCheck membership. Eligibility for this offer is verified at enrollment with a government-issued ID, and the discount applies only to new enrollments. Unfortunately, renewals don’t qualify.

The standard TSA PreCheck fee is $79.95, which drops to $59.95 with the discount. That said, the actual price you pay depends on which of the 3 authorized enrollment providers you choose: CLEAR, IDEMIA, or Telos.

Each sets its own fee, so post-discount totals will land somewhere between $56.75 and $65.

There are roughly 1,300 enrollment locations across the country, and you don’t have to head to an airport to find one. Many are at retail stores in your community.

Once approved, you’ll get your Known Traveler Number in about 3 to 5 days, and you can start adding it to bookings right away. PreCheck Touchless ID is also live with 6 airlines at 65 airports, though the program requires a separate opt-in to use these dedicated (and often shorter) security lanes. Plus, remember that kids can use TSA PreCheck for free when traveling with an enrolled parent.

Other Ways To Get Discounted or Free TSA PreCheck

If you’re over 30 — or you’d rather not pay anything for your TSA PreCheck membership — there are still plenty of paths to savings. The most straightforward option is to pay the application fee with a credit card that reimburses it.

A long list of travel cards offer a statement credit covering the TSA PreCheck application fee — or the $120 Global Entry fee, which automatically includes TSA PreCheck benefits upon enrollment — every 4 to 5 years, meaning the perk effectively pays for itself many times over the life of the card.

It’s also worth checking a few other angles. Some employers — particularly in government, consulting, or frequent-travel roles — cover the fee. Active-duty military members and Department of Defense civilians get TSA PreCheck at no cost through their DoD ID, and some airline elite programs or corporate travel platforms may offer a credit. It’s worth a quick look before paying out of pocket.

Final Thoughts

TSA PreCheck remains one of the better deals in travel. It costs under $12 a year at the standard rate, and it’s even less for travelers who qualify for this new $20 discount or hold a card that reimburses the fee.

If you’ve been putting off TSA PreCheck — particularly if you’re under 30 or have a loved one who is — May 2026 is a great time to enroll at a discounted rate before the summer travel rush.
