Air Canada and United are strengthening their relationship by offering reciprocal free Wi-Fi for Aeroplan and MileagePlus members — and it’s as easy as entering your loyalty numbers to start conencting.

Let’s take a closer look at what that could mean for your next Air Canada or United flight.

Air Canada and United’s Reciprocal Wi-Fi

United MileagePlus members will now enjoy complimentary free Wi-Fi when flying Air Canada.

To ensure an easy connection on the plane, passengers must enter their MileagePlus number when booking their Air Canada flight. Once onboard, passengers will also be prompted to enter their MileagePlus number and seat number when trying to access inflight Wi-Fi.

The complimentary, fast service is operated by Canadian telecoms company Bell, and is available on Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft on Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge’s North American and sun routes. However, most of Air Canada Express’ aircraft are also Wi-Fi enabled.

Air Canada is also planning to roll out its complimentary Wi-Fi on its long-haul international routes at some point in 2026.

Likewise, Aeroplan loyalty members can enter their membership numbers to access complimentary Wi-Fi on United’s aircraft.

That said, anyone with a United MileagePlus membership can access the complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi. This update basically means Aeroplan members can log in with their own accounts, rather than having to create a MileagePlus account just to use United’s Wi-Fi.

For easy access onboard, Aeroplan members must add their frequent flyer numbers to their United Airlines booking. The passenger’s date of birth and United booking reference will then be required to access the complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi. Alternatively, passengers can verify their details by scanning a QR code.

Hot Tip:

United plans to have Starlink installed on over 500 mainline aircraft by the end of 2026, including its long-haul fleet. Upgraded Points senior editor and contributor Nick Ellis tested United’s Starlink Wi-Fi and experienced fast speeds of 154.92 Mbps download and 18.03 Mbps upload.

Final Thoughts

The reciprocal complimentary Wi-Fi access to both Aeroplan and MileagePlus members is a simple yet meaningful gesture for the airlines’ frequent flyers. The news will be especially welcome for those who often fly cross-border routes between Canada and the U.S.

Hopefully, it won’t be long before free, fast inflight Wi-Fi becomes the norm, rather than a “nice to have.”
