United Airlines made waves earlier this year with the first-ever U.S. flights to Nuuk, Greenland (GOH) from Newark (EWR). It was an exciting — if not peculiar — route.

But the airline announced on August 25 that it will bring the route back next year, making it much easier to connect to the world’s largest island directly from the U.S.

Here’s what you need to know.

United To Bring Back Flights to Nuuk Next Summer

United Airlines will fly to Nuuk, Greenland (GOH) from Newark (EWR) again next summer, Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, announced on Instagram.

The airline is keeping details for 2026 tightly wrapped for now, so it’s unclear when flights will restart. However, United did share that the final flight from Newark to Nuuk for this year will be on September 23, with the last return flight from Nuuk taking off on September 24.

If you remember, United announced its largest international expansion in history last year, which included service to 8 new cities.

The airline became the only U.S. carrier to serve the following destinations: Nuuk, Greenland; Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; and Madeira Island and Faro in Portugal.

Flights to Nuuk took off on June 14, with 2x weekly seasonal service on United’s Boeing 737 MAX8 jet.

How To Book

If you’re interested in visiting Greenland — and don’t want to travel with a layover in Iceland — you only have a few more weeks to book flights for the 2025 season.

However, cash tickets aren’t cheap, so we recommend dipping into your points and miles balances if you’re set on a trip to Greenland.

You can expect to pay nearly $1,200 for a round-trip ticket, or 80,000 United MileagePlus miles, in economy.

If your balance is running low, you can earn United MileagePlus miles by opening one of the best United co-branded credit cards, shopping through the United MileagePlus Shopping portal, or transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

You’ll pay the same amount if booked with Air Canada Aeroplan points.

However, Aeroplan points are much easier to earn. That’s because the program has numerous transfer partners, such as American Express Membership RewardsBilt RewardsCapital One miles, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Marriott Bonvoy.

Air Canada Aeroplan is one of our favorite programs to use. See why by learning about all the best ways to redeem Aeroplan points for maximum value.

Final Thoughts

United’s first season flying to Greenland hasn’t ended, and the airline already plans to resume the route next year. This is a big sign that the route is popular among travelers — we look forward to United returning to Nuuk next year!
