Good news for Apple and United fans: the airline is now supporting Live Activities for iPhone users — a first for any U.S. airline.

With this feature, you’ll be able to get important information about their trip in real-time directly from your iPhone’s lock screen or the dynamic island — without needing to open the United app!

Let’s take a look at the details and how you can add Live Activities to your phone.

United Adds Live Activities

For those who are not familiar with Live Activities on the iPhone, it’s an iOS feature that pulls data from select apps and displays it in real-time on your lock screen or on the dynamic island. This provides easy access to information without having to search for a specific app.

Now, United passengers will be able to see their boarding pass, gate number, seat number, and even a departure countdown with just a glance at their phone.

“We’re seeing soaring demand for travel this summer, and Live Activities puts all the flight information you need right at your fingertips, whether your iPhone is locked or you’re doing something else like checking email, listening to music, or texting friends,” said Linda Jojo, Chief Customer Officer for United.

In addition to flight status, numbers, and inbound aircraft information, users will be able to quickly open their boarding pass, see their baggage carousel information, and more.

By the end of May, this feature should be widely available to passengers. You’ll need an iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max with iOS 16.1 or later equipped the latest United app update.

United’s Mobile App

The United mobile app is already quite impressive. In fact, the airline states that up to 3 million users interact with the app everyday. Here are some of the existing features on United’s app:

  • Agent on Demand
  • An interactive map
  • Travel Ready Center
  • Terminal Guide
  • Search and book travel
  • Games
Hot Tip:

Targeted for United’s latest Mile Play promotion? Don’t forget that you must register and fly by June 5, 2023, to earn your bonus miles.

Final Thoughts

Just in time for summer, United is rolling out tech improvements to make travel a little bit easier. Whether you’re a casual flyer or a road warrior, this feature makes it easier to access your flight information. Just make sure you have iOS 16.1 ready to go!
