United Mile Play Promotion Is Back … With a Very Different Look [Ends August 28]

United often runs a promotion known as Mile Play, with the airline awarding MileagePlus miles to select members after they complete activities. Offers vary widely from 1 person to the next. The offer provides free miles for qualifying activities and incentivizes customers to continue to fly with United, engage with its partners, or spend on its credit cards.

This time around, fewer people than normal are seeing offers, and offers now include non-travel activities.

Here’s what you should know about the latest promotion and how to register.

How To Register for United Mile Play

First, you’ll need to register for the Mile Play promotion. Once you enter your United MileagePlus loyalty number, you’ll get to see your targeted promotion.

Were You Targeted?

Unfortunately, not all members are targeted, though there does appear to be a mix of both United elite status members and non-status holders who are eligible for the offer.

Having a higher elite status doesn’t necessarily guarantee you’ll be targeted, though the offers seem to be better for some.

If you’re not targeted for the promotion, there’s nothing you can do except hope that you can participate next time.

Current United Mile Play Offers

The number of miles United will award changes depending on your qualification, elite status level, and pattern of flying. These offers are VERY different from what we normally see.

Most of our team isn’t eligible for an offer this time around. Here are some of the offers that our eligible team members are seeing:

• Earn 26,000 bonus miles if you open a Chase United credit card, link your United and Lyft accounts, and opt in for United emails.
• Earn 25,700 bonus miles if you open a Chase United credit card, link your United and Lyft accounts, and opt in for mobile notifications from United.
• Earn 160,000 bonus miles if you take 2 trips in a premium cabin

All offers end on August 28, 2026, so you’ll need to register and complete the qualifying transactions before this date to receive the bonus miles. If your activity requires a flight, understand that a qualifying fare is without taxes, so you’ll likely need to pay over these amounts to be eligible. Award flights don’t count for this promotion, and miles earned don’t count toward United elite status.

How To Use Bonus MileagePlus Miles

There are tons of great ways to redeem the United miles you earn from this promotion, such as:

• Upgrades on domestic or international flights
• Seat assignments or Wi-Fi passes
• United Club memberships and day passes
• Flights on both United and partner airlines

Some of the offers that are circulating are enough for a cheap, free, one-way flight, so certainly don’t overlook this promotion.

Final Thoughts

This offer presents a curious twist, no longer offering MileagePlus miles for flying but instead rewarding non-flight activities like getting a credit card, receiving emails, or linking your United and Lyft accounts.
