United often runs a promotion known as Mile Play, where the airline awards MileagePlus miles to select members after they complete activities, and offers vary widely from one person to the next. The offer provides free miles for qualifying activities and incentivizes customers to continue to fly with United, engage with its partners, or spend on its credit cards.

Here’s what you should know about the latest promotion and how to register.

How To Register for United Mile Play

First, you’ll need to register for the Mile Play promotion. Once you enter your United MileagePlus loyalty number, you’ll get to see your targeted promotion.

Were You Targeted?

Unfortunately, not all members are targeted, though there does appear to be a mix of both United elite status members and non-status holders who are eligible for the offer.

Having a higher elite status doesn’t necessarily guarantee you’ll be targeted, though the offers seem to be better for some.

If you’re not targeted for the promotion, there’s nothing you can do except hope that you can participate next time.

Current United Mile Play Offers

The number of miles United will award changes depending on your qualification, elite status level, and pattern of flying. Here are some examples of offers that Upgraded Points staffers have received:

  • 11,000 bonus miles if you book and take any trip in a premium seat (costing at least $700)
  • 11,000 bonus miles if you book and take 2 trips (costing at least $225 each)
  • 5,900 bonus miles if you book and take at least 2 trips (costing at least $150 each)
  • 5,800 bonus miles if you book and take at least 3 trips (costing at least $225 each)
  • 3,100 bonus miles if you book and take 2 trips (costing at least $175 each)
  • 3,000 bonus miles if you book and take any trip (costing at least $100)
  • 2,500 bonus miles if you book and take any trip (costing at least $225) to earn 2,500 bonus miles
  • 3x bonus miles, up to a maximum of 9,000 miles, on any trip

All offers end on September 13, 2024, so you’ll need to register and complete the qualifying transactions before this date in order to receive the bonus points. Remember, a qualifying fare is without taxes, so you’ll likely need to pay over these amounts in order to be eligible. Award flights don’t count for this promotion, and miles earned don’t count toward United elite status.

How To Use Bonus MileagePlus Miles

With the extra miles you earn, you can use them for:

Some of the offers that are circulating are enough for a cheap, free, one-way flight, so certainly don’t overlook this promotion.

Hot Tip: If you need to top off your United MileagePlus balance, you can also transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points and Bilt Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

This offer is an easy way to earn MileagePlus miles for little to no extra effort (if you have plans to fly with United in the next couple of months). Many — but not all — passengers should be eligible to earn the extra miles, which can then be used toward future flights, upgrades, and more.

Most of the qualifying activity is relatively straightforward to complete, so checking your offer.
