United often runs a promotion known as Mile Play, where the airline awards MileagePlus miles to select members after they meet a certain number and/or type of flights in a given time period. The offer provides free miles for qualifying activities and incentivizes customers to continue to fly with United.

Here’s what you should know about the latest promotion and how to register.

How To Register for United Mile Play

First, you’ll need to register for the Mile Play promotion. Once you enter your United MileagePlus loyalty number, you’ll get to see your targeted promotion.

Were You Targeted?

Unfortunately, not all members are targeted, though there does appear to be a mix of both United elite status members and non-status holders who are eligible for the offer.

Having a higher elite status doesn’t necessarily guarantee you’ll be targeted, though the offers seem to be better for some.

If you’re not targeted for the promotion, there’s nothing you can do except hope that you can participate next time.

Promotion Details

The number of miles United will award changes depending on your qualification, elite status level, and pattern of flying. Here are some examples of offers that Upgraded Points staffers have received:

  • Book and take any trip over $250 and earn 5x miles (up to 15,000 bonus miles) on your next flight within the promotional period (through June 7)
  • Book and take any trip over $175 and get 3,000 bonus miles
  • Book and take 2 trips over $175 and get 7,000 bonus miles
  • Book and take 2 trips over $300 and get 4,300 bonus miles
  • Book and take 3 trips over $175 and get 11,000 bonus miles
  • Book and take 4 trips over $225 and get 11,000 bonus miles

All offers end on June 7, 2024, so you’ll need to register and complete the qualifying transactions before this date in order to receive the bonus points. Remember, a qualifying fare is without taxes, so you’ll likely need to pay over these amounts in order to be eligible. Award flights don’t count for this promotion, and miles earned don’t count toward United elite status.

How To Use Bonus MileagePlus Miles

With the extra miles you earn, you can use them for:

Some of the offers that are circulating are enough for a cheap, free, one-way flight, so certainly don’t overlook this promotion.

Hot Tip: If you need to top off your United MileagePlus balance, you can also transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points and Bilt Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

This offer is an easy way to earn MileagePlus miles for little to no extra effort (if you have plans to fly in the next couple of months.) Many — but not all — passengers should be eligible to earn the extra miles, which can then be used toward future flights, upgrades, and more.

Most of the qualifying activity is relatively straightforward to complete, so you should definitely check to see if you’re eligible to participate today.
