United Airlines has released an update for its mobile app, introducing several useful new features just in time for the busy travel period at the end of the year.

Here’s what you need to know about the latest version of United’s app.

United Mobile App Gets New and Improved Features

United Airlines‘ mobile app (iOS, Android) has been updated with new flyer-friendly features that will certainly come in handy on your next flight.

First is a feature the airline is calling “Virtual Gate,” which is designed to reduce the time spent waiting at the gate by displaying real-time boarding information, including the current boarding group and a graphic indicating the precise number of people who have already boarded.

Next up is a new feature surrounding United Clubs. This update introduces a new feature that automatically recommends the ideal lounge location based on factors such as distance to your gate and available space across lounges at a given airport. Capacity information is now available at Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and will be introduced at additional airports throughout 2026.

The app will also now include more personalized information, such as tips for traveling with strollers or wheelchairs, reminders about required travel documents for a specific trip, biometric boarding options, and more.

Arrival information has also been enhanced to display the weather at your destination, as well as rideshare instructions specific to your destination airport — an especially handy feature, given that every airport has its own unique procedures.

Finally, bag tracking improves. It will now display real-time location information, displayed via a new tracker that mimics the style of a package delivery.

United says the updates have begun rolling out to users and are expected to be available at scale ahead of the final travel surge of the year.

Final Thoughts

United’s mobile app has built a reputation for being at the cutting edge of the latest technology, and this update is no different. We’re especially excited to see how the lounge capacity feature works, as overcrowding remains an issue, and this could save travelers a significant amount of time, stress, and extra walking when trying to find a lounge with available space.

However, all of these new features are likely to be welcomed with open arms by travelers, a large portion of whom rely on the app on travel days.
